Disappointingly poor in comparison to the 2008, this 2009 simply tastes like a cheap nasty chardonnay.

To avoid further disappointment on my part does anyone have any recommendations for the Tesco Wine Festival? Most offers seem to be the usual suspects with their half price "pull the other one" discount.

Hi Wizz, if half decent CdR Village is on your list and must be on the '07 vintage and at £4.94 - then this one:

Look at the back label to check the vintge:

Wizz - Mr Tribs says that the 07's are all gone. You may as well check while you are there.

Im soooooooooo glad Tesco messed up and delivered me a case of the delightful Tremblay Les Pierres Blanches '08, I could have ended up with this '09

[thinks I'll reflect with a cup of tea & a chocky biccy/]

Purchased Finest Châteauneuf-du-Pape and St Joseph, both 2008 (I had it in my head that 2008 was a good rhone vintage - apparently it was the worst for about 20 years).

Looks like more disappointment to be had.

The Northern Rhone was same as 2002 not great :? , so that cheap Saint Joe will be without body and depth of flavour , Southern Rhone not so bad and better than 1996.

Hey Wizz .... That chateau neuf will be early developing, if you bought cheap, swig down, probably ok, much depends on whether the Co-op bought a load of 3rd & 4th pass reject stuff. The notable producers will have selected less fruit for their Marque, therefore the dross could be a tad better than in a normal year  ...they have contracts.... Think positive

When looking at wines from the traditional appelations in France, you can map the situation without too much learning. For bulk co-op wines, it is a question of "Suck It and See" as you know. Crap wine can be returned, mediocre wine also.

We have been spoilt rotten by '07 Rhones, we may have to get used to lower satisfaction levels in the future

Folks looking for the De Ligny Chablis 2008.
There are some out there. I found 4 slightly dusty ones today :) when searching for 2007 Rhones that may be on offer.

Don't give up looking....apparently Tesco bring out stock from every crook and cranny in their warehouses and Extra Stores stockrooms when theese offers are running.

Duncan you are quite right about the Tesco St Joseph - lacks body and is ready for drinking now, the plus point is some fresh fruit but this alone isn't enough to justify the discounted price let alone the full.

Update on the Château de Ligny Chablis 2009 - not too bad when very chilled, but no awards this year.

There were no 2007 Rhones in Tesco Extra stores within shopping range of here. NONE.

Wizz - We did warn ourselves - but not enough it seems, I'm now eeking them out.

Folks looking for the De Ligny Chablis 2008

Notice to folks with stocks.

Please don't go searching for more of the award winning 2008. The little princess is getting a few wrinkles. Please drink all your remaining bottles before Christmas, or you'll be sorry.

Tribs will be ok though - he has acquired a decent sized wine cooler for fragile stocks.

Must of missed this post first time round.
Searching for a white in the cellar found a Ligny 2009.

Age hasn't improved this wine, still sharp zip fresh but very one dimensional.
OK for a glass to unwind from work but not exciting.
