Gavi La Battistina '12 - from the Wine Society ?
Made by Araldica Vini Piemontesi Soc. Co-op. a.r.l. Araldica is the bottling and marketing arm of a group of co-operatives in the Asti/Acqui Terme region of Piedmont. It is ably run by Claudio Manera, whose wife Lella is also an oenologist working in the laboratory. They are very important producers of Barbera d'Asti and Moscato and also make excellent Gavi and cortese. In 1998 they bought the marvellous hillside estate, Il Cascinone, totally revamping the vineyard and cellars and by 2011 had 60 hectares in production here.
Looks as though they may have played with the fermentation, and /or picked the crop a bit late. I had a Macon blanc produced with that sort of effect / style - Rhetorical Q. I don't know why they want to make them richer or heavier ? Over extraction ? How should a Cortese be when made in the traditional style ?
This is another comment:
An aromatic, zesty, nose with citrus, lime and pineapple, and a hint of minerality. Juicy, weighty fruit with an immensely long finish.
