There is a deceptive blandness to the first whaffs coming off of this. The taste is complex however, with the two-thirds petrolly dankness and fullness of the Semillon being hijacked and kicked into a marvellous mouthful by the steel-plated lemon grass of the SB. Grapes are from both the Hunter Valley and Marlborough.

Found Mels' note, it's attached to the Waitrose offers on the front page.
Good question GK. The front label says "Hunter Valley & Marlborough". The back label says "Wine of Australia, Hunter Valley & Central Ranges". Perhaps it's the company that has sites in both.

I guess they get around the labeling laws by only having 15% SB. Technically its still an Oz wine?

Based on Mel's note I would buy. Rather lovely she says - I understand that. I like the fact that it appears to be subtle.

Essentially an unoaked new world white Graves mix. Interesting to compare.

The offer is still strapped to 6 wines ? Or is it a special.

Pity - I think - I must drink stock for now. My Christmas treat, (based on saving till we get nearer) is too well anchored in my thoughts.

I'm not much use to Readers at the mo, I just don't try enough of the offers.

Typical old v. new world jobby. Recently had the St Jean Graves and there are underlying similarities, mainly the definite two-grape attack. The antipodean is much more of a mouthful and a wee bit off dry. The Bx is steelier. Bit like a sabre v. foil.

On offer at Waitrose 'til end of month. Single bott in store in any 12 mix online.

How does this compare to PL semillon or St Hallet Poachers Blend.

The Tawhiri MSB is down to £5.99 at the CoOp.

I dare you all to try it. Sugared tomatos with a touch of bramble jam.

I've tried the "Poacher" on several occasions. Regularly gets decent press. Not sure about the Riesling bit though, seems a little weird. but it is growing on me.
Nothing whatsoever like PL Sem. Chalk and leeks.

2008 Tawhiri Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand

This is a pungent example from Yealands, whose asparagus and green bean undertones are supported by crisp and refreshing passion fruit and gooseberry flavours. A winner.

Zut alors, ok Blueboy (ha! you won't remember him) will give it a glug.
