Non vintage and no mention of the grapes with a very girly label to boot. It should be rubbish.

However !

Lovely mineral smell. Dry strawberry and chalky mineral taste.

A poor man's Sancerre rose. Made the village of Tuchan in the South of France.

Are you taking the mickey ? Cos if you are, I ought to warn you that i'm a 6ft Cardiff City fan and if I have any more abuse i'll be at at the next Stroud wine tasting to sort you out.* :x

I do love the creamy texture and mineral aftertaste of a good Sancerre rose. However, like most people, i'm not so keen on the price and often look for a cheaper alternative. I've noticed that the more time a rose spends in contact with the skins the darker the wine and the more tannic and bitter the flavour but the less skin contact the paler the wine and the more creamy the texture. ( Anjou is the exception. Anjou always produces pale wines but they are usually tart, acidic and sweet ).

So I always experiment with pale pinks.

I had settled on the Fish Hoek Pinotage rose at Tesco and when I popped in to buy a case at the discounted price of £4.19 I saw the pale coloured La Maison De Roselyne at £4.49 and so bought one to try.

The wine did look suspiciously like the Grenache rose at the CoOp which you described as girly and lightweight. It's also from Tuchan and has the same silly label. However, I couldn't not try it. And i'm glad I did cos the wine is just like a Sancerre. Very mineral with subtle dry strawberry.

£4.49 is a bargain

* For identification purposes ...I'll be the one hiding behind GK
