How long has it taken you to cotton on to this one? I've been ranting on and on and on, but would you listen??

Good morning, Ms Stroppy.

Actually, I enjoyed the 2006 as well and I can remember us both being disappointed by the 2007 ( and the reserve ) when they were first released, but, this has now developed into the exact same wine as the 2006.

I will buy another bottle of the reserve when it goes on offer.

I also had half a glass of the 2006 Louis Jadot Pinot and the Cono Sur is by far the better.

Stroppy, me?

MW exam next week, so escaping to the Forum for some light relief.

Note the lack of spam. It's a calm, serene place these days.

Back to distribution notes.

Joy!

Hi I'm a newbie here. Glad you enjoyed the Cono Sur pinot noir. The Reserve 2005 was on offer in Waitrose in the late summer, and it is quite a few notches up the ladder for refinement and about £1.50 more - but not complexity I'm affraid, it will not go anywhere.

Some of these new world Pinot rouge's improve with a few years only, whilst others dry out and also will go into Sarsons. Avoid Tasmanian Ninth Island pinot noir if it's over 2 years since the vintage release. The Canerros ones (spelling) will go the mileage but these are terribly expensive.

Of the Jardot Bourgogne ordinaire, 2006 was not that successful for the mass produced ordinary stuff, so be very carefull. Avoid Cote de Beaune labelled stuff for 2006 because these are parcels of grapes from remote and damp areas that are miles away, geographically and in terms of flavour from Beaune (cotes de Beaune Villages is 3 times better for £2 more). I tried moving up the tree for 2006 by trying Lupe Cholet's selection de la famille, and it was still not much better. IMHO of 2006 Burgundy, only the tiny growers and 'villages' or named village wines are going to properly excite you.
For Cote d'Or or Challonais rouge you have to know your vintages. Had you bought the ripe 2003 Jadot and drunk it in 2008/09 or the 2005 Jadot and drink it in 2010, it will whip the pants off the Cono Sur.
For terroir, complexity and refinement and sweet length in the mouth, pick off the supermarket offers for ONLY the right vintages, then wait patiently until ready. Please do not store in warm rooms or a freezing garage either.

If you can't store in the right conditions, forget everything I have written.

I've enjoyed your humour in past posts Goosegogs

Hello Duncan.

I've managed to get some 2005 CS Reserve for 4.99 from my local Somerfield.

I also managed to get some Asda Alsace gewurz for just 3.00, their Petit Chablis for 2.99 and Montana sparkling for 4.74.

All bin ends.

New silly offers every weekend at Asda.

Asda just isn't convenient for me. I can manage it about 3 times a year. A pity because those offers sound vg.

Just collected some wine from an auction held yesterday. I've bought some very old Barsac with which I was forced to buy some very old Bergerac Sec, which will go in the bin, and some Graves, which won't.

Also a batch of ancient Mosel, mostly in halves. 34 bottles for £80, but the halves are too old to be of any entertaining use. Light, aged Riesling with a hint of apple juice and some nuttiness. There's also 6 bottles of 89 Spatlese, which should be lovely and some very dodgy looking 1970s Piesporter, with very low levels, which may also become cooking wine.

Just couldn't resist them.

I want to know which Barsac you have bought, any famous ones ?

Also the Graves, please say which chateau's they were. Any Chat Ferrand or La Lumiere. Were they whites, sounds like this was a white parcel. Anyway, let here about the Barsac.

One New Year's Eve 2004, I served some some 1983 Filhot and my guests were amazed by the beauty of the flavour, just knocked them over....ok, I know I spolt them, but I wanted an excuse to open the wine and I knew 83 was a 10 out of 10 in Sauternes / Cerons / and Barsac.

lets hear what you have .....Huh ?

Amazing bin ends - Well done mate. Great quaffing offers, that you can enjoy with your friends and LESS than a round of real ale.

You know how to search them out - Hey Goosegogs - PLEASE tip me off when you see some half decent Burgundy at those incredible knock down prices.

The message is - Buy the good-uns while the credit crunch scares the pants off the stock managers at the big supermarkets.

6 x Coutet 1990
1 x Coutet 1962 - the year of my birth and so of interest, otherwise likely to be pretty OTT, I expect

Ch de Tourte 98 was the Graves. Never heard of it, but should be drinkable.

Job for the day - find places to stash these bottles.

Very Nice find at the Auction. I knew the right bank and the left bank were a 10 an oustanding vintage. In Sauternes, a quick check on BBR'S charts confirm my thinking and knowledge

I have loved Climens which I've had twice WHEN PROPERLY ready - Coutet challenges Climens according to Hugh Johnson

In Sauternes, rain at the end of August encouraged an early and rapid spread of noble rot, allowing most producers to finish their harvest before the red wine estates
Well done Mel, You knew the 90 was exceptional, particularly given the Botrytis conditions that Autumn.

Will it go another 10 years will depend on where and who stored it.......I think you need to try one to make sure.............
Let us know please.
