Montana Rose

Made from merlot and pinotage and despite the promise of a dry wine the merlot adds the usual rich, syrupy, slightly sweetish cherry finish.

Nice enough but not worth £6.49

Jacob's Creek Shiraz Rose £5.99

Made it into Matthew Jukes top 250 wines of 2006.

Shiraz rose, like merlot is always rich, syrupy with a cherry like aftertaste and is never dry. Jacob's Creek have tried their best to make this dry but all they have done is give the wine an incredibly short finish.

It's also a bit sickly...the new Blossom Hill white zinfandel perhaps.

Matthew Jukes what were you thinking ?

Bourgogne Rose

£9 from M&S. Can any rose be worth £9?

Bone dry and lovely...subtle wild strawberry and mineral taste.

Made in Chablis or somewhere near..

wasn't sure you drank anything other than sauvignon.

perhaps you could write a slim guide book to sauvignon.

Splendid Idea !

If only I could find a publisher !

To be honest though, my days of experimenting with sauvignon are pretty much at an end.

With Thresher charging just £5* for Montana and Oddbins £5.40* for Dashwood that's my cheap everyday SB's sorted and with Oddbins reducing Henri Pelle Menetou Salon to £7.20* and Thresher £8.66* for the Fournier Pere Et Fils Sancerre that's my special occasion minerally Loire SB's sorted too.

I still think Oddbins need to work on the £10.40* for Clifford Bay...but it is stunning.

And I still need to find a really mind blowing smokey Pouilly Fume.
