Beautiful haunting nose. Violet, aged fruit, gentle, trembling and very beautiful. Smooth mouthfeel, evolved fruit, some blackcurrant but mainly velvet.

Wow

a) lucky me, to have friends celebrating their engagement and so pulling out this sort of thing

b) look at he time - way, way past.

c) silly stacey out of the X factor, a positive move, i think

Ignoring the slur on one of my favourite programmes, it's impossible to put a price on top wines. He says the bottle is "worth" £240 and we discussed this.

The wine is not "worth" £240 if you compare it with, say a £20 claret. It's not 12 times better, of course.

But, if you are a wino, then these wines are beckoning and you want the experience.

I suppose what you could ask is whether my glass was worth £40. Would I shell out £40 for it myself. The room didn't move. It smelt lovely and it tasted clarety, but it wasn't a life-changing experience.

Not sure I've answered that clearly or succinctly. It looks like I'm saying No and I suppose I am, but only just.
