Oz Clarke rates this as the best Sancerre mimic sold in the UK

It has a slightly off putting smell of wet wool Chenin Blanc but does have wonderfully pungent lime and gooseberry flavours and is genuinely reminiscent of good Sancerre.

Stunning stuff for ?3.99

I tried this once, found it a bit on the thin side, lacking character with little to no finish. Maybe it has improved, I will give it another go, thanks.

I will however, give it 10/10 for achieving what is possibly the 'ugliest bottle of wine design' I have ever seen..
 :D

LOL

It does look about as cheap and tacky as a wine bottle can get.

I've drunk this many times and have been disappointed as often as i've been impressed.

But the bottle I drank last night would have fooled many a wine expert into thinking that it was a particularly fruity Sancerre.

So long as they hadn't seen the bottle first of course.

Watch out for the damp dog smell.

The bottle we had yesterday was the 2004. I just had a glass of the 2005 and it's not much better than you describe.

Just ordinary dry white wine. :-(

So if you do try this try and get the 2004.

Thanks G.

I tied some Spier Sauvignon Blanc '05, Sth Africa, over the weekend at a neighbour?s house, came from Majestic at around ?5 but I was sure I had seen it somewhere else. Anyway, decent SB, all the usual boxes ticked, I thought it was incredibly smooth and balanced for a ?5 wine, wasn?t over-chilled, I think that helped. I have just seen Tesco on-line are doing it for ?4.74 on a box of six, I think I know what to do with that '?10 off' voucher I got with last months Tesco Wine Club Magazine..
