Thought i would try it for a £5; as asda have little to commend itself to generally speaking.

But really enjoyed this good solid body and structure, good fruit and balance with tannins, still young but certainly drinkable. very amenable and approachable despite its youth, fills the mouth and good length on the finish.

its getting harder to find a "good" well made bottle of wine with character these days especially at this price. drank it with pleasure and wish i had got two lol. read up on it and this is what i found: Jane Mc Quitty The Times

For a start, bear in mind that the average optimum drinking window for fine red burgundy from recent top vintages like '05, '06 and '07 (5-10 years), and claret from great vintages like '05 and '00, followed by '06 and '04 (7-20 years plus). Good red Rhônes are swifter maturing and I'd be happy to tuck into lesser wines from their leading '05, '06 and '07 vintages now, with the big Rhône guns best broached in 5-12 years. And don't lose your head just because the prices look keen: remember that New World wines age much faster than Old World wines and last year's rosé or beaujolais nouveau, despite merchants' claims otherwise, will be dead as a dodo.


2007 Crozes-Hermitage, Les Brunnelles, Ogier, France Asda, £5 until Feb 9. Ogier is a respected producer, so dive into this peppery, velvety, red fruit-laden, syrah-based Crozes and rejoice

Will look this up, cheers chabod. Ogier? Is this Michel Ogier fo Côte Rôtie?, perhaps grapes from the surrounding hills made their way into this particular wine.

£5 until Feb 9. Next year? or have we missed the boat?

yes its him, good quality maker ... the times article was written a while back ... but it is NOW at ASDA for a £5 .... if i had £60 to spare at the moment ... i would quite happily spend it on these 12 beauties.

Any chance that you could estimate the optimum drinking dates, will it last well to end 2011 or so, in good storage conditions ? - I have earlier Crozes 2005 stocks to consume - I'm tipping affordable 2007 Southern Rhones myself, but only from good producers

We had a lovely morning walk through the grounds of Weston Park yesterday followed by picnic by the lake. On the drive home we passed the only Asda store within 10 miles on where we live, I popped in and found the last bottle of Les Brunnelles sitting on the shelf, its now safely tucked away in my rack.

well over the past weeks this wine has been reduced to £4 - its an automatic for trolly on my normal shop - unless of course there is something else good looking there - not easy to find at Asda unfortunately

I opened this recently, overall I enjoyed the wine, nice fruit with good, sandy tannins, a good grippy mouthfeel. I found it a touch hot, nothing major, it is very young and should mellow over time.
