Very good and there is no better sauv at the £5.99 offer price. If this was Chile or Touraine, wine writers would be almost orgasmic at discovering such a lovely wine but as it's Marlborough and people expect so much from the region it goes by almost unnoticed every year.

Oyster Bay

Almost flavourless. If anything it has a slight lemon/lime sherbet dab taste.

Nothing wrong with this but there is little or no Marlborough flavours and the offer price of £6.49 - £6.99 is poor value

On the subject of Montana, I came across a wine by them over the holiday which I had not seen before-
Montana Reserve Marlborough 'Vintage Selection' Riesling, 2003.

The store? Home Bargains (long story) at £3.99

Home Bargains is the type of place that buys stuff on the grey-market, they offer a selection of wine at low prices, stuff like Wolf Blass Yellow Label Riesling @ £3.99

I bought two bottles of the Montana Riesling, thinking it will either be past-it and dreadful or a nicely aged, budget Riesling.

It was neither. To call this rich would be an understatement. Oily, intense, tinned fruit, gritty. Decent fruit but so concentrated, ok in small doses, I struggled to finish a second glass.

I will put this wine away and open it in ten years.

GK, Iknow you relish a bargain, and this one hits the spot. Riesling can be wonderful, and is very under rated by the general public. Jancise Robinson has been advising folks to try these NW Riesling wines, but no one seems to listen....which is damn good for those who have taste

I have one bottle of Amisfield central Otago dry Riesling to try, it came back on a plane from a friend. Does anyone know Amisfield, is it a boutique NZ wine maker ?
