Sadly this is Sainsbury all over.

Buy vast quantities of a cheap drab wine from a well established French region and sell it for £8 or £10 for two weeks and then halve the price.

Dry..watery with a vague hint of honey.

Pointless and not worth the £3.99 offer price..will probably be added to their equally pointless TTD range as their Bordeaux sauvignon..

Waitrose and M&S are now way ahead of Sainsbury in terms of quality and Tesco's largest stores have a vast choice that leaves Sainsbury looking a bit like a glorified corner store.

Even larger Co Op stores are starting to rival Sainsbury.

I'm sorry, but I won't have a word said about Taste the Difference. I think it has real value. Tesco Finest, however, is just cheap wine with a silver neck label.

I have yet to find a TTD wine that I would go back for. But then, as my tastes are limited to sauvignon, semillon and riesling with just the odd unoaked chardonnay maybe i'm being a bit harsh.

However, their Sancerre is shocking, their Aussie sauvigon/semillon is poor as is their full bodied Marlborough sauv, unless of course you like your sauvs on the heavy side.

Tesco too have many lame wines in amongst their finest range as do Thresher and Oddbins but I have also found some very good wines in amongst the dross.

Generally, I think own label wines offer poor value and should be avoided as even when you do find a decent one there is always something better at pretty much the same price.

The real point though is about Sainsbury drafting in utter junk and parading it at full price for two weeks and then halving the price for a 6 week promotion.

Nobody else does this, just Sainsbury

This is a crass way to treat your customers and many people that I speak are put off buying wine at Sainsbury.

You can only rip people off so often.

Of all the big wine merchants, Sainsbury have gone from being the least criticised five years ago to being the most criticised in 2007.

The profits they make on their junk wines in the short term could ruin them in the long run.

Blimey, you feel strongly about this, don't you? Sorry to disagree, but I have greatly enjoyed more than half of the TTD wines. I agree about the Sancerre, but the Pouilly Fume is great. The NZ SB is patchy, and I don't like the Douro Red, but I know others do. Could you bear to try the Albarino? I know it doesn't fall into your normal category, but it's a good little wine. £5.99 the last time I bought it.

I will try the Albarino next time they have 25% off any 6 wines. It's not a grape i've tried so will be interesting.

Well done on the review btw....this site does indeed offer excellent value.

Just imagine how much i'd have to pay per month to argue about Sainsbury with Oz Clarke or Jancis

I work for Jancis's site and it is worth considerably more than the annual subscription. However, thanks for the comparison.

Up until Nov ’05, Sainsbury’s had won the E&J Gallo European Retailer of the Year award three years running. Nothing for ’06 or ’07.

Things must be improving.
