The best Chablis since sipping an expensive '05 grand cru from the Wine Society as a dinner guest, some 3 years ago. Perhaps this was a very special awareness day for me ?
You can buy from Waitrose, look-out for Ocado 25% offers. This wine has gone up by £2 a bottle recently - It happens, when they are very good. £18.99 full retail
Everything you want from a Chablis, exceptional minerality and texture on the palate as well. flavour goes on and on, lovely wet granite patio paving notes.
Kimmeridgian stone is a very hard dark grey material, with compressed dove grey shale and shells lying above the very hard seams, above that 2nd seam is a clay marl. I walked out on the ledge at Kimmeridge Bay in Dorset at low water last week, fullish moon, so it was an exceptional low water for many hours. On the cliff top, to the west of the bay, BP's nodding donkey was out of action, so it was very quiet up there. Very clean, I was impressed, only a faint smell of shale oil from the bore hole. Wild flowers around the fenced perimeter.
If you can afford a pair or so - You will be thrilled when all your lunch guests start smiling. You tell the most inexperienced person in the room it is a chardonnay - they look at you sideways - What ! Lots of discrete teasing goes on. More smiling, then suddenly, the bottle is empty.
When climbing-up the Chablis tree, this is one of the best ones half way up for the dosh.....IMHO. More than we normally pay - Sorry to tempt you- As I say, look out for the Ocado discount. Must be the 2010 to be The One.
