Bought this just over a year ago.

Discussion here

There is a nice brown tinge in the glass and noticeable whiff of age on the nose, but in the mouth it is bright and surprisingly youthful. There's a little tannic streak on the finish, but that suits me and it was perfect with the fine cut of rump steak we had on Saturday. Very nice indeed. It's perked my interest in claret.

I am just finishing the bottle and it is still holding up well. I think it could have gone on a bit longer, but I wouldn't have wanted those tannins to soften much further. Judging by reviews of other vintages (Duncan's link in the thread above is very interesting), it would seem this is a consistent producer. 1999 (This vintage) is not considered one of the better ones, but it is still good. Majestic stock it and it is worth keeping an eye out for decent deals on a good vintage. It's currently £13.99 reduced to £12.99 if you buy 2.

This wine has never disappointed me. A classy number, and given inflation, £10.99 was a cracking price for a fully mature claret with breed. Morrison's for a very little while, had some of this, on the '01 vintage, when they acquired Safeway stocks.

So glad you experienced what I like about Caronne.

As for the Maj offer, The wine gang agree with Chris Kissack. A clip from Chris K's TN below, and dated February 2010 confirms.....

"Lots of flesh on the palate, covering the ripe but very firm and upright structure very well" Therefore I say, A quality keeper :)

Yes. Thanks for the nod on this one, Duncan. 8) Many times your advice has enabled me to score some great bargains.

I have a selection of mature claret that should be ready, which I am looking forward to enjoy this winter. Next stop is '96 Picard. :D
