Dreadful for about twelve months but MW sent me a bottle and I could detect the right flavour hidden away underneath a bit of sulpher. I paid more attention to the sulphur and forgot about it but then I saw this wine included in somebodies top 50 winter wines saying ' what a difference a few months in the bottle had made '. So I got one off a mate who drinks nothing but this and Wolf Blass Yellow Label Chardonnay ( ugh ).

It was really nice. Lacks the intensity of the 07 but the flavour is basically the same. I would be happy to buy a case of the 09 when on offer.

Does not compare to expensive Saint Clair and for £10 it would need to be a lot closer to the 07 to be worth it but at the usual discounted price of £7.99 it's better than any sb that springs to mind.

I shall be buying this when on offer.

Oh yes

I am due in at MW.

Apart from an '03 Bourgueil from P-J Druet (super ripe but only 12.5% abv) I want to try, I will see if they have JE'09 on some sort of offer. I'm glad you said something, I'd been deferring JE for a very long time, cos I was still wedded to the '07.

Will let you know where its at, versus VAV'09. If you remember the VAV'07 well, of course you do - that '07 was also magic for me.

Well....got a few to go for.

G, I thought this would come good, so kept a couple back, and re-tried one last night at cellar temperature. Not oilly at all which is good

The minerality is still masked by sweetness, so is the currant bud and other usual refinements one gets from JE, very little pungency. I think they've made this vintage rather sweet, ok, one can chill down to reduce, but that is not the point with JE.

It was a nicely balanced wine though, no gremlins, other than the extra sweetness which is spoiling things a bit. Pity

This wine is £11.99 these days, so even with 25% offers, it is still £9 a bottle. I will try the '10 when I see it on offer, but at £11.99 full retail..... not so sure.
