My case turned up, was hoping for the '09 based on Tribs TN but got the '10, maybe not a problem considering Trib's comment on lack of aging potential.

Ive read plenty of TN's for Rioja / Tempranillo over the years and lost count of the times Ive seen it referred to as a 'full-bodied' red, 'robust and rich', which in my opinion is simply wrong. Tempranillo is medium bodied, and the best ones are fresh tasting, elegant, uncomplicated but deeply flavoured with gentle oak integration.

This example doffs its cap to the lighter-side, violet in the glass (young), nice peppery nose, sweet cherry and cinnamon, fresh but just a touch too drying in the finish, this may mellow in a year or so.

Its growing on me. A nice dinner wine, should go well with lamb and herb roasted veg.

'Twas a while ago, but I believe that the last red which I enjoyed was a Rib del D.
Lopez Cristobal '04?

You did brilliantly there GK, I was hoping to join you last week. I went to the Tesco orderline and found the wine Out of Stock. Hence you got the '10. I'm surmising here, but assume that Tesco were really intending to clear the '09 out, and then stop the offer !

Good TN GK. It is right to educate folks about proper and beautiful Rioja. Which as you say, is elegant and light in colour, with wild strawberry flavours in harmony with vanilla oak. In their TN's or, it is actually heavy Rioja which is NW influenced, "They mix up body and long legs with density and over extraction" I am glad that Rioja producers in more recent decades had reduced the overly oxidative and extra heavy old oak influence. It was just too much, and could be unpleasant.

Enjoy - brilliant QPR by the sound of it.

GK, this is back on offer after several days OOS and is now £2.67 per bottle as at 11:45 PM tonight ?

Spain .....extraordinary situation going on in their wine industry.

Rural Spain are now in the same dire situation as Portugal and Greece. I heard one tradesman on R4 doing local authority and municipal works for a town Major, who hadn't been paid for metal work done 12 months ago !

Incredible price, you should get the '10 if you ordered.

I would be happy to get a case to give away at this price, an interesting, easy-drinker like this always makes for a decent gift/bottle bag wine for friends and neighbours around Christmas. Better still, you might actually like it
