Goose,

The '09 VMCB is the one on the website - Thinking - the '09 is fuller, but typically '09 a tad sweeter me thinks, but when Bob wrote the TN, the wine was younger.
Yeah .....tricky.....working out preferences, and having asked a dear friend to drop into the tiny Chiswick shop - how would you mix MY choice of vintages ? If there is a bleeding choice ! There might be none - All sold out

Is that sweeter fuller '09 feel going to go downhill ? I do like the CB '09 which is '09 upscale, and at the fuller end.

Sorry G - subjective stuff here, but worth a vain, and may be not so vain attempt to ...... getting it right.

I don't have the '10. That Vision Riesling Bio Bio Valley as well. Bugger ....

- I'm going to call a friend who lives in west london, whose due here this Crimble - Well spotted Shez -

Shez - Important - the Riesling that was in the top 28 was 2009

Ta muchly

picked up 4 bottles of VMCB for a tenner each and 3 cono sur vision for 6.99 (sadly the 25% off 6 didn't apply to these already reduced bottles)

Good luck finding some Duncan

I agree that the award winning Vision was 2009 but tend to believe that there is a decent consistancy in vintages and wine production for Chilean wine especially at this price range
we'll see......

Wow !!!

The 2010 is said by Bob to be a step down, 91 as opposed to 93, so I advise buying this especially as I am sure that wine will go on for a year or three yet. Stunning

Mr ~G~.

I am of course honing in on the JE07 / Cloudy bay '09 attributes. Both similar in memory, and to my mind.

I located 3 of these '09s at the new price in Majestic today, and reserved them. Real nice folks down there. The new price is £9.99 for the '10. I also picked up 2 Goldwater for a knock about in the next 2 weeks.

Mr Tribs, you've also test driven the VM WR but you didn't mention which vintage - Did you ?

G~ Have you tried the VM Wairau Reserve '10 yet ? And...... dare I comment on the Goldwater '10 before you !

3 Q's there - sorry I've been otherwise very busy with other peoples tax liabilities, so I haven't been paying attention

No I haven't tried the VM WR 2010 and I probably won't after Bob mentioned lemon grass. If you try it and find it to be same as the 09 then i'll buy some. Of course you can post your Goldwater notes before me. Only don't mentin lees or pith as i'll only get confused again.

And we don't want that.

Or stalk ! ~'#?~&%

Our mistress has ducked the matter, and I've foxed myself too often, the more one tries to analyse - the worse the description (and understanding) becomes

The goldwater '10 presents quite posh for £7.99.

It was the the 09 I tested. I think the end of the subject line probably said (£9.99 offer) as this has been the price for the last couple of months. Glad to see it is still the same. From recollection it is like the Vavasour 09 on steroids. I found it hard going, but I can appreciate it is an exceptional wine and have bought a couple more cos it 'as potential.

The Goldwater is a totally different animal, but very good too. Don't worry too much about any pith because I found it was not very noticeable after 24 hours open.

Our mistress has ducked the matter,

Mel always ignores us when we try and sound intelligent....you'd be amazed at the number of people who ignore me when I try and sound intelligent.

I think I might be Peter from Family Guy

I couldn't endorse Goldwater '10 last night. But it did come alive with food.
I was finishing some cheese and onion pen pasta with crinkle spring cabage, quite heavily seasoned with ground black pepper and butter. With that supper, the wine was good, becasue it was uncommercially dry with sufficient acidity. Alc 13%.
I did find the fruit rather austere for selected Wairau valley plots, and as an apperatif, one dimensional. It may improve as it opens up more this evening. I have just been to the fridge, and unscrewed the cap. The nose is much more interesting this morning. The straight down the line gooseberry pungency, some unwanted phenols and faint preservative have disappeared, it is much fuller now, with mango and fresh pineapple notes making a statement in my nostrils.

I hope that opened-up nose is replicated in the flavour. My wife said it was rather light for a cold Winter night and would be much better chilled in the garden this Summer. It was a bit chilly indoors when she got home. I was in the office.

I'll leave the vacancy for a new thread for this, to Goose.

Your summary is reflected here for day 1.

Day 2 is much better. the nose and the flavour do open up. Your austerity may be my grapefruit pith bitterness, but that is gone in 24 hours. Its not a pungent wine and I agree with your wife, but, once those undesirable elements had lifted, I thought it had a wonderful nose and a lovely flavour. I do like lighter MSB's though.

Good, I dontwannabe a damp squib. Tribs you will see from my early conversations with Goose at the back-end of '08, that I do have a weakness for sipping voluptuous MSBs - I'm cynical and scathing of this current trend for sugaring-up indifferent fruit. I lay down the VM reserve wines, so it's always a while before I comment on them. Clifford B '08 to finish next, I hope it hasn't losts it's woomph.

This is on offer at Asda to £9, which is a good deal.

In the store I called in last night they were all 2009 but I didn't but any as they were on the top shelf and the bottles were warm to the touch :x .
