Initially quite sweet. Tasted of cherries and rose petals
Was better having sat in the glass for a little while where the sweetness died sown a bit
Fine as a limited option down the pub but I wouldn't buy any of this for drinking at home

Shez, it is made for a different market than ours....well U knew that, infact anyone who bothers with a wine forum and has explored pinot noir is not going to go there. People who buy this have never tasted a burgundy that is on song. It is to do with satisfaction. Half decent burgundy has come down against the NZ stuff.

CO to do, but the experiment is quite expensive.
Cheap chilean PN is more likely to have some satisfaction over Poppy and trendy NZ, even when you up the anti by another 50%. Felton Road is strong money, but so is good Napa.
Yarra to do, they can vary so much, cos the climate is so variable. The last mature one from Maj had gone like moldy old carpets though :?: The wrong mold I'm affraid. But many many more to do, there is hope there for affordable perhaps.

We always persevere. very few affordable holy grails found yet - despite what the qualified professionals say.

Affordable:
I tell a lie, there was one for me from SA made in a very old hugenot settlement, 100 or so years ago, a vineyard at the top of the valley on steepish slopes of sedimentary rocks that was heading in exactly the right direction.

What is the dilemna

The wrong soils, much too much heat, very high yealding PN grafting clones.......in short, different drinkers want different stuff !

Duncan,

For the lower price bracket PN you might like to try the Bulgarian offering Eduardo Miroglio Pinot Nero 2007

Reviewed here

ignore my ealier tasting notes as later bottles have shown that this is a very good PN for a tenner

I recently received an email from the wine gang reviewing a some recommmended wine and this was in there:

If this wine is the shape of things to come from Bulgaria, it has a very promising future with Pinot Noir. Fragrant yet savoury on the nose, the palate oozes cherry fruit and some meatier, fleshy flavours too, all wrapped up in velvety, moreish tannins. This has the rustic charm of the Old World but a juicy core reminiscent of the New World. Delicious. 91/100

Shez,

You did very well with that, another first for you :)
Being sceptical ......I'm sorry that I turned down one offered by Laithy last year, you have to take so many on a punt - damn it. Lake Balaton slopes, is it ?

That TN sounds very appealing. I have tried 2 x Rumanian ones about a decade ago. But no.

I wiill look in the new year. Cheers Shez

 I am doing my fair share of curtain twitching too, online tracker says it has been sorted at a local hub and is on the road.

I got that mail as well, just before 20:00 last night.

We are delivering to: lardy dar

via HDN

Your order will be delivered by 21 December 2010. Our delivery times are 7:00am to 9:00pm.

I stuck a note next to the knocker, to leave in the porch, went to the bank before closing to pay-in. No one came. They've got 23 minutes left.......

I've haven't bothered to track it. I'll negotiate half a case of Puligny Montrachet if it doesn't arrive for Christmas
