This has been good in the past so I couldn't resist when I saw on offer last week. Reduced from £7.

The aroma promised great things, but unfortunately as soon as the wine was in the mouth a horrible bitterness was evident.

However, 24 hours later the bitternes had gone, entirely. What was left was a delightful Rioja. Typically complex. Rich with Raisin notes. Fruit, herbs and vanilla on the nose. Day 3 and it was softer and more delicate.

These Asda Extra Special wines are rarely discounted more than a £1 on rollback, so worth getting at the moment, if this is your thing. Doesn't have the finesse of some of the more expensive Reservas, but easily the best I have tried at this price level.



But, please remember, do not drink on day 1 or maybe try double / treble decanting.
