Just had my birthday dinner, run by someone else. Took the magnum of Bolli (thanks Shez). Delicious smell and taste, but, if I can criticise, the taste was medium, rather than long.

Delicious food, plus

Jadot Meursault 07
Musar 02
Vila Real 78
Another Rioja, sorry, can't remember
707 Penfolds, getting on a bit and the star of the evening, 1996
Rivesaltes 82

yum, yum, yum.

Also, sat next to lovely man, which didn't add to the taste of the wine, but ...

..... Yeah ok......added to the pleasure :)

You have been spoilt....You have

How was that Rivesaltes, it is a cotes de Luberon pudding wine ? on the 82 - now approaching 30 years. Survived - or perfect ? Never tried here.

Also, please confirm vintage of the 707. I have a very good friend with an old pair of these (I think '82 as well), I should advise him.

The Rivesaltes was from Waitrose, recently and was fresh as anything. Really very good. The 707 was only 1996, but it had evolved beautifully. I can't imagine that it would get better (not worse, but it was damn near perfect).

Thanks, '96 aye, the ole memory says, (haven't looked it up again today) that '96 was bl**dy good for 707. All that fruit, cedar and ciggar box cab, must 'ave been sipping unciously, a masculine beauty for you ? Power and grace.
