Cuvee Mythique '06, blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache and Carignan. Good tannic structure, has a wonderful mouthfeel to it, herbs & spice, aged, softened and drinking well.

Currently reduced to £3.99

The best £4 you will spend on a red this year.

Agreed.

Typical French Herbs on the nose, surprisingly smooth in the mouth and then spice on the finish.

Very good at this price.

This was better on the second night.

And on the third. Wow. The herbs had mellowed on the nose and the spice on the finish barely noticable.

I might have been wrong on the herbs. It actually has me in mind of some of the more herbal Riojas. Muriel Reserva perhaps. Crazy price at £4.

Indeed.

Also available at Somerfield for the same discounted price- I think its because Co-op & SFd recenty merged.

Was thinking of buying a case, Co-Op give you 10% discount when you buy x12, that's £3.59 a bottle. Crazy. Id like to try this over the summer.

Im thinking this wine ('06) has two years left in it, at most. What say you Tribs?

My local Co-op has the 2003 and 2003 as well as the 2006.

Tried the 2003 this evening and it's surprisingly good. Drier and less full bodied than the younger vintages i recall but with some delicate cedar character. I wouldn't leave it much longer though.

I'd agree GK. It's good for drinking now. I don't think it'll improve too much.

Called in a Co-op this morning. I hadn't realised yesterday was the last day this was on offer. The ticket still said £3.99 but they wouldn't sell me at that price. Damn! Wish I'd picked up more of this whilst on offer. I may try another store tonight

At least they had some Co-op Marlborough Estate Reserve left in this branch. I cleared the shelf

I am amazed. Did you speak to the manager?

Every supermarket where I have been charged more at the checkout than shown on the shelf label has at least honoured the stated price.

Morrisons have refunded in cash what I paid and given me the goods free of charge with an apology.

I didn't kick up a fuss TBF. It was 10am and there was only the one girl in the shop. I don't think she had the knowledge (or authority) to override the til and I didn't really have much time to argue.

That is good to know. I will keep checking the offers page.

Ed. It does not surprise me at all. The '06 had improved dramatically by the third night. Let us know how they compare if you picked up any '06.

Might be 3, 6 or 12 months but it comes around every now and then. Stoney Road is another oft recommended discounter.
