Tasted October 2012 WHITE ITALY Pietrariccia Fiano 2011 £8.99 Buy 2 save £4 = £6.99 Rich, spicy, herbal nose. Very spicy taste and it needs food because there just isn’t enough acidity to carry it alone. Falanghina Terredora 2011 £10.99 Buy 2 save £6 = £7.99 Very spicy nose. Intense, bright, sharp with a long, herbal aftertaste. Good. * WHITE LOIRE La Grille Touraine Sauvignon 2011 £7.49 Buy 2 save £3 = £5.99 Wow. Very intense cat aroma. Almost eye watering. Actually, it’s a bit stinky as well. Don’t like this at all. Very sour. Pouilly Fume Cascadelles 2011 £11.99 Buy 2 save £6 = £8.99 Dec Promo Ripe and appealing nose. Very savoury taste. Quite textured and with a dry finish. Vouvray Domaine des Aubuisieres 2011 £9.99 Buy 2 save £2 = £8.99 Not much aroma. A hint of fizz and quite warm alcohol for Vouvray. Bone dry. WHITE FRENCH REGIONAL Picpoul de Villemarin 2011 £7.99 Buy 2 save £4 = £5.99 Low on aroma. Very savoury and dry. Needs food. Dom St Ferreol Viognier 2010 £12.49 Buy 2 save £5 = £9.99 Beautifully rich, oaky, aroma. Really draws you in. Big, rich and exciting wine. I’d shave 1% off the alcohol, but I think that’s my problem. Good wine. WHITE BURGUNDY Petit Chablis CVC 2011 £9.99 Buy 2 save £2 = £8.99 Pleasant lemony nose. Bright, sharp and dry. Chablis 2011, Domaine Servin £12.99 Buy 2 save £6 = £9.99 Dec Promo A little creamier than the Petit Chablis. Vibrant palate. Plenty of taste and texture. Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2011 £19.99 Buy 2 save £4 = £17.99 Lemony aroma. Quite textured, but lacking the ripeness and creaminess you might expect from 1er cru. Bourgogne Chardonnay Château de Jacques 2010 £12.99 Buy 2 save £6 = £9.99 Little aroma. A touch of oak, some fruit. Nice enough balance. Pouilly Fuisse Domaine Cordier 2011 £16.99 Cordier Offer = £15.99 Ripe and exciting nose. Ripe and oaky. The alcohol’s a bit fierce. Pernand Vergelesses Jadot 2010 £19.99 Buy 2 save £4 = £17.99 Sweet, dried fruit aroma. Lovely – really inviting. Delicious taste. Perfect fruit/oak balance. Savoury finish. Love it. * WHITE SPAIN Rioja Blanco 2011, Muga £10.99 Buy 2 save £4 = £8.99 Nicely green nose. Very savoury and oaky taste. Chewy oak. Lovely with herbal starters. WHITE NEW ZEALAND Ragged Point Sauvignon Blanc 2012 £7.99£7.49 Buy 2 save 20% = £5.99 Lovely gooseberry aroma. Dry and very savoury. Really green and sharp. The Ned Black Label Sauvignon Blanc 2012 £9.99£8.74 Buy 2 save 20% = £6.99 Note new name. Appears to be the same as original. Catty and bright aroma. Sharp and bright with tart gooseberry and grapefruit. Good. Parcel Series Sauvignon 2011 £9.99 Buy 2 save 20% = £7.99 Creamy, sweet nose. There’s a lot of texture here and sweet fruit. I prefer The Ned. Te Mata Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc 2011 £19.99 Buy 2 save 20% = £15.99 Really stinky. Like silver polish. Swirled it a lot and some lifted, leaving some weight, perhaps some vanilla. Very oaky taste. Think Te Koko. Fairleigh Estate Riesling 2011 £8.99£8.74 Buy 2 save 20% = £6.99 A grapefruit zest aroma. This has a little residual sugar and is very zesty and pithy. Good price when reduced. WHITE AUSTRALIA Parcel Series Riesling 2006 £9.99£8.74 Buy 2 save 20% = £6.99 Very forward on the nose. Loads of petrol. Tart and absolutely delicious. * WHITE CHILE LFE Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2011 £9.99 Buy 2 save 20% = £7.99 £9.99£8.74 Buy 2 save 20% = £6.99 Dec Promo Fruity, lemony nose.
