Exclusive and Unique to Marks & Spencer. So, I think Stuart Rose when he was boss could have made an investment in this domaine. Saint Aubin is situated on a dog leg ridge of the cote de Beaune, north west of Chassagne. I wouldn't buy a single bottle at this price because you may be able to find a 2009 Beaune which could have a bit more perfumed aroma. However you won't find an '05 in a Supermarket, nor an '09 with such lucidity at the price. So, if you want this '05, buy In the box of 6, get another box of something else, and then less 25% is £14.25. My opinion is now based on £14.25 a bottle Why do you want the 2005 then. ''05 Beaunes have a lovely deep garnet from ripe dark PN fruit skins, and the partial drought in the winter and spring means that the juice is more concentrated than normal, and the tannin is so well integrated, that it is seamless. Excellent chicken dinner, cold white meats burgundy, great with whole Trout covered in pepper as well. The wine tastes like an Auxey Durresses, or bolder Chassagne red (when did you last drink St Aubin 1er rouge ?) with a bit more structure, whilst it misses the perfume of Doms further north, the aroma is straightforward CdB pinot + Autumn raspberry leaves on the ground" and quite heady. Flavour, dark ripe raspberries, Leafmold, peat, and some subtle vanilla from the oak are the primary flavours now (there is no Corton like pepper as claimed - pity) The beginning of a sunset rim in the glass, but I dont think this is a medium keeper even though the oak is perfectly adequate and there is 1er structure. You don't want to loose any of the fruit to vanilla and sous bois. I shall be drinking mine over the next two years or so, Reasonable length, good acidity, and very versatile. So..... A very pleasant, uncomplicated, yet mature and proper Burgundy is the conclusion |
