Las Moras Pinot Grigio 2011 £5.99 San Juan 100% Pinot Grigio Unoaked 12.50% Little aroma. Nicely acidic. Not bad, for pinot grigio. Trapiche Sauvignon Blanc 2011 £6.99 San Juan 100% Sauvignon Blanc Unoaked 13.50% Heavily reduced. This is a foul, foul wine. Really, they cannot have tasted it before we arrived. 2nd bottle still reduced, but the flavour is slightly more pleasant. I’m pulling a face. my first double yuk - quite memorably foul Las Moras Pacha-Mama Torrontés 2011 £6.99 San Juan 100% Torrontés Unoaked 13.50% Beautifully floral nose. Dry and lovely taste, with an echo of the floral aroma. Delicious. Cono Sur Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2011 £7.99 San Antonio 100% Sauvignon Blanc Unoaked 13% This has a nice offer – buy two and get a free book. The book is Paul Merrett’s The Allotment Chef, which actually sounds good. Nice creamy sauvignon nose. Sweet, with tangy acidity and plenty of varietal character. Trio Chardonnay-Pinot Grigio-Pinot Blanc 2011 £7.99 Casablanca 70% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Blanc, 15% Pinot Grigio 8 months in French oak barrels 13.50% Ripe and pleasant nose and taste. Perfectly nice. Errazuriz Wild Ferment Chardonnay 2010 £10.49 Casablanca 100% Chardonnay 12 months in French oak barrels - 11% new 13.50% Creamy, oaky, nose. Typical of this grape, this price and the New World. Rich, with plenty of oak. Nicely balanced. Villa Maria Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2011 £10.99 Marlborough 100% Sauvignon Blanc Unoaked 13.50% Ripe, sweet and creamy nose. Really extraordinarily gorgeous nose. Sweet, ripe and delicious taste. Great for dinner parties as it is so lovable. Delicious. Stonehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2011 £7.99 Western Cape 100% Sauvignon Blanc Unoaked 13.50% This seems light after the VM. Tart and typical. Pleasant. Zondernaam Sauvignon Blanc 2011 £9.99 Western Cape 95% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sémillon 5% Sémillon was barrel fermented. 13.50% Light on the nose. This would work well with herbal starters but it a bit astringent for drinking alone. Rustenberg SWB 2011 £9.99 Stellenbosch 44% Sémillon, 41% Viognier, 10% Grenache Blanc, 5% Roussanne 13% third-fill 300 Lit French oak barrels 14.50% Not a great deal of aroma. The flavour of this is good. It’s persistent and pleasant but the alcohol is 14.5% What are they thinking? It burns. Washington Hills Pinot Grigio 2010 £7.99 Columbia Valley, Washington State 100% Pinot Grigio Unoaked 13% Very little aroma. Very sweet. Think Alsace, without the weight. Definitely medium dry. |
