Graacher Riesling Trocken, von Kesselstatt 2010 £10.50 12.5% The Wine Society One of the finest and most delicious dry rieslings we have seen with lovely bouquet, tasty middle palate and fresh aftertaste. A delight. Teal-coloured glass. Very little nose. Fizzy, like dispersible aspirin. Bone dry. Definitely riesling, but less so than others. Searing finish. Very grown up. Forst Pechstein, Riesling Trocken, Burklin Wolf 2009 £31.00 13% The Wine Society Burklin Wolf owns 1.71 hectares of this 12 hectare vineyard. Volcanic basalt in the soil gives the Pechstein (flintstone) not only its name but its noticeable minerality . Low yields combined with biodynamic cultivation show the unique characteristics of the vineyard. Pechstein is the most elegant of all the estate's grands crus. Little on the nose. Light, zingy, refreshing. Long flavour. Good, but pricey. Semeli Mantinia Nassiakos 2010 £10.95 12% The Wine Society Floral and delicious dry white that emerged blind as a wine champion. Comes from the moschofilero grape grown in the high cool vineyards of Mantinea in the central Peloponnese. Made by expert Leonides Nassiakos In a strange, gingery-brown bottle, with three pairs of secateurs on the label. Perfect present for your gardening friends. Very honey-sweet nose. Slightly bitter taste, with a floral finish. Definitely dry, but pretty. Camel Valley Atlantic Dry 2010 £13.95 12.5% The Wine Society A skilful blend of 60% bacchus, 20% reichensteiner and 20% chardonnay produces this dry white with a clean balanced tang. Crispness, ripeness and a long lasting finish make this a fine accompaniment to fresh, preferably Cornish, fish. The bacchus comes through on the nose, as you’d expect. Very nicely catty. Great taste. Catty, but with strength, persistence. Very good. Think verdejo. |
