Post subject:  THE WINE SOCIETY IBERIAN WHITES - SEPTEMBER 2011

Castillo del Baron, Macabeo, Yecla 2010
£6.25 12.5% The Wine Society
The winery is equipped with modern vinification facilities; stainless steel tanks, full temperature-control, pneumatic presses and a state-of-the-art bottling line.

Almost no nose. Rather a dull, unlovely wine.  Very un-Wine Society.

Feitoria, Douro (Lavradores de Feitoria) 2010
£8.50 12.5% The Wine Society
Lavradores de Feitoria is a fifteen producer co-operative in the Douro, based at the impressive Mateus palace. The winemaker here is Paulo Ruao, formerly of Ramos Pinto, with Dirk Niepoort acting as consultant.

Savoury nose. Nice, fresh and appealing.

Zarate Albariño 2010
£11.95 13% The Wine Society
Winemaker Eulogio Pomares made his first vintage in 2000. Since then he has  improved quality in the 11 vineyards which they either buy from or own. Average vine age is an impressive 35 years and some are being planted, ungrafted, with a view to biodynamic viticulture.

Lightly floral and inviting. A touch of spritz, some grapefruity zest.  Nice.
