Lovely green, grassy nose. Pretty light flavour, perhaps peapods. Easy sauvignon.

Transit of Venus Sauvignon Grenache Roussanne 2010

This has an interesting creaminess on the nose. A touch of the dirtiness of mango as well. Intense flavour. Quite savoury and certainly nice, but with a slightly hollow middle.

The Lost Arrow Reserve Western Australian Chardonnay 2010

Nice ripe fruit on the nose. Served very cold indeed and yet manages to have a lovely aroma. A touch of bitterness on the palate, but a good standard at a fair price.

Red Ocean Reserve Barrel Chardonnay 2011

Golden colour. Creamy, leesy nose. Lacks flavour in the middle. If you want this style of Chardonnay you don’t need to pay this much.

Soaring Kite Viognier Riesling 2007

Blimey, the riesling really leads on the nose. Absolute essence of petrol – there’s a French joke in there somewhere. Full-flavoured and exciting. An awful lot going on. Long and lovely. Not for beginners, though.

Nico 'The Blend' Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Lovely vegetal, herbal nose. Not a gooseberry in sight. Lovely flavour. Just the merest hint of sweetness. A little weight in the mouth. It’s gorgeous.

De Martino 347 Limari Chardonnay 2010

Lovely aroma. Lean, green and refreshing. Tart acitity. Refreshing, bright and with nothing oily about it. Good.

Oroura Station Single Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Ripe, tropical sauvignon. Ripe and fruity taste as well. Vibrant and long. Very good.

Pax Verbatim Rockwater Fountain Viognier 2009

Nice spicy oak on the nose. You’d need to like oak, but I do. It’s got a lot of texture but ends with juicy acidity. I love it.

Coltbridge Reserve High Eden Valley Chardonnay 2010

This has a Sancerre-style label, clear glass and looks very inviting. There’s some lemony fruit on the nose. Much better in the nose. It has some weight, some ripeness, that wasn’t on the nose. Not bad, and lasts well.

Vina Leyda Gewurztraminer Reserva 2009
Maipo Valley

Lovely rose and lychee nose. I’d love this as a room spray for my bedroom. Bright and refreshing acidity. None of the weight and oiliness of the Alsatian version. Crisp and bright am thinking Thai food.
