Chapel Down Brut NV, England £19.99 12% Sweet, fruity nose – slightly off-putting. Fruity initial taste but it finishes beautifully. Dry, yeasty and gripping. Very nice and really good value when reduced. Really long. Chapel Down Pinot Reserve 2005, England £23.99 12% Slightly darker colour than the Brut. Rich and lovely aroma. Full-flavoured and gorgeous. Just perfect. Tangy, grapefruity, bright and very long. Nyetimber Classic Cuvée 2004, England £29.99 12% Delicate but appealing nose. Classic taste. Elegant, but tasty. Pretty long and exciting. Taittinger 2004 £38.00 12% Textbook biscuity nose. This is lovely but I absolutely cannot say it’s better than the Nyetimber. Lovely. One of the few champagnes I’d like to drink half a bottle of. Chapel Down English Rose NV, England £21.99 12% The palest, palest pink. Looks very classy. Light on the nose. Savoury and full-flavoured. Persistent. |
