Giesen Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Marlborough £8.74 12.50% Screwcap Cat pee and tropical fruit nose. You know how a mango goes when it’s very, very ripe? Tart, typical and a very good price. The Ned Waihopai River Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Marlborough £8.74 13.50% Screwcap Light, fruity and peapoddy nose. No gooseberry, no cat pee, no astringency. Light, but fruity. This is very nice wine. Atypical, but lovely. The King's Favour Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Marlborough £12.49 20% off New Zealand Wines* £9.99 13.50% Screwcap Another light, peapoddy nose. Is this a new fashion? Nicely sharp palate. Pithy and grapefruity without being austere. Very good. Worth £9.99 of anyone’s money. Fairbourne Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Marlborough £17.49 13.50% Screwcap Catty and herbal nose. Quite sweetly fruity taste. Typical, gooseberry and pretty savoury finish. Saint Clair Pioneer Block Chardonnay 2009, Marlborough £16.99 14% Screwcap Twin Hills Block Richly oaky nose. Loads of tropical fruit and promise. Lovely flavour. Ripe, with savoury oak, and a touch of cleansing grapefruit on the finish. It is oaky, so beware if that turns you off. Main Divide Riesling 2010, Pegasus Bay, Waipara £12.49 11.50% Screwcap Light riesling on the nose. Off-dry with a touch of spritz. Much more the German style than the Australian. Good for Asian food. |
