Chablis 'La Collégiale' 2011, Laroche
£13.99
12.50%
Screwcap
A little reduction from the screwcap on the nose – think silver polish. When it lifts there’s little of any interest on the nose. Lots of leesy, milky texture on this one. It’s OK, I suppose.

Mâcon-Villages Blanc 'Les Pierres Blanches' 2011, Cave de Lugny
£7.99
Screwcap
13%
Very little on the nose. Neutral palate. Not unpleasant. If you want an inoffensive unoaked French chardonnay, this one’s good value.

Mâcon-Villages 'Les Roches Blanches' 2010, Louis Jadot
£9.99
12.5% Cork
Golden colour. Much more exciting nose than Les Pierres Blanches. Ripe fruit and excitement. If you want to buy the cheaper wine, stop, and go for a scrabble down the back of the sofa for the extra quid. Really, it’s a much, much better wine.

Saint-Véran 2010, Domaine Thibert Père et Fils
£13.99
13% Cork
Savoury nose, with a really creamy lees aroma. There is a little oak, but it’s kept well back. Nice balance, nice price. Lighter than some St Verans but that’s sometimes nice.

Saint-Véran 2010, Domaine Thibert Père et Fils. A "Non filtre", left on the lees cuvee' does throw a small biege sediment, so stand upright before serving.

the 07 and 08 get QO Stars from me. Currently £12.99 on offer.

The two lady MWs judge the white burgundies absolutely spot on.

JR says of the '10 "Lightly smoky nose with some real structure to this scented wine. Much more energetic than the old St-Vérans. Tastes as though it will take on interest." .

They are right, of course :) . The '08 is done on cellar tracker, The '07 is still up there, and performs well above its price point. I have one of each left.

This dom Thibert wine builds a bit more weight over time, also, to my palate, becomes less savoury and more honeyed with bottle age.

Watch this Wine - If this drops by another 50p or a pound at the end of the Summer - and, You love white burg, you should know what to do.
