Joseph Drouhin 2009 Rully, Burgundy, France 13.49 100% Pinot Noir from ‘sélection massale’ guyot-pruned vines planted on limestone soil and planted at 10,000 - 12,500vines/ha. Grapes are sourced from the Drouhin Domaine and from trusted supply partners. Harvested by hand into small plastic crates and sorted in the vineyard and again at the winery. Maceration and fermentation lasted 2 – 3 weeks using indigenous yeasts with temperature control, once-daily pigeage until half-way through ferment then once daily pumpover thereafter. Pressed in a vertical press and matured in French oak (10% new) for 12 - 15 months. Suitable for vegetarians. Alc 12.5%. Waitrose Wine Direct and 235 branches. Lovely vanilla oak on the nose. Delicious. Mouth-watering acidity. Juicy, sour cherry fruit. Lovely. I’d hold onto this for a bit to make it even better. Domaine de la Pousse d’Or 2009 Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy, France 45.00 100% Pinot Noir, grown on east - south-east facing slopes on largely limestone soil with rocks, marl, sand, red silt and large crushed pebbles. The grapes were harvested on the 25th September with a yield of 30 - 35 hl/ha. The fruit was 100% destemmed and then left to cold macerate for 7 days prior to a long temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation (21 days) in oak vats with 2 pigeages per day. Aged on lees in oak barrels (30% new oak) for 15 months, with a late occurring natural malolactic. Neither fined nor filtered: racked and bottled by gravity flow. Winemaker Patrick Landanger. Suitable for vegetarian and vegans. Alc 13.50%, TA 5.98g/l, pH 3.46, RS 0.54g/l. Waitrose Wine Direct and 3 branches. IWC 2011 Gold Medal Winner. Lovely oaky aroma. Very inviting. Oaky, vanilla, delicious flavour. Yes, it is expensive, but it is so lovely. Perfect for Sunday lunch or Christmas. |
