Domaine Bourillon Dorleans demi sec. Chenin blanc, about £8 from Majestic, may be a bit more now.....if they have it.

The demi-sec, "La Bourdonnerie" vintage 2008 is wonderful, when you serve it right. Opened on Thursday night, 1st flavours were cox's orange pippin and clean towels, a bit sweet....Ah ! I know what the problem is. I left in the glass to blossom, but didn't wait long enough.

So decanted into a carafe, and shoved in the fridge for an hour. Was tired so, got a funnel out, and put the wine back into the bottle, and popped the cork back on.

Next evening - wonderful wine, that sweetness was now honeyedness, with lovely depth of ripe comice pear fruit and a little hazel. beautifully integrated now, a whole wine, refreshing yet succulent.

Memory.....I rate the 2008 vintage for this wine, much more than the '05. On the back label it says the wine will keep 20 years. Therefore, you know that this one must be given a chance to open and blossom if it is recent. If serving for a dinner party - do as I have descibed above - the wine then moves into the tasting very expensive league, and is lush. Serve at sancerre temp, the wine warms in the mouth, you are not swigging this down....surely.

I've got a few 09. I tried one last summer. Ah, the honeyedness. Its what I love about a good vouvray. Yes the 09 appeared very sweet at first. After a few days in the fridge and it was as you say but not to everyones taste. Personally, I love it, although I will give the remainder some time I think.

I've not seen any in store for a while.

Yep, sorry tribs - but, you must keep them on the rack for quite a while I'm affraid, But then....yum & more yum & +++.......worth all that waiting

So impressed with the '08, that I went to see what the big guns said of the demi sec wines on this vintage on the web.

From there..... We deduce that if its good for the General, it's certainly favourable for his officers...... (Well unless of course, they had been rubbish before)

If I can take it - I'm not breaking another '08 for at least another year or two - I'll just have to suffer.
