This is Cab/Carm/Syrah

There's a lot of talk about this wine, amongst my friends and they seem to rate it. Added to that, it seems often to be on special offer.

It's got a very dense purple colour, so that when you pour it the bubbles are purple as well. Nice spicy, baked nose with concentrated, rich fruit. Quite a lot of tannin but enough ripe dark fruit to make it balanced. Refreshing, juicy acidity. Not bad at all and currently £5 in Sains.

I am fairly sure this was 3 for £10 in Asda before Christmas.

For that price it's an absolute steal. I think you're right.

FYI folks,

having picked up 5 bottles at my local Londis of all places at £4.15 a bottle, I saw this also in Asda today with roll back price of £4 (tho with a White label on the shelf rather than yellow discount label)

Definately a better bargain than a lot of the co-op discount wines recently

Thanks of the heads up, Shezza

I had checked a couple Asda stores recently as I had recalled it being on offer. Neither had even a space on the shelf.

I had given up, but your post lead me to check in another store where I grabbed the last three bottles.

Cheers :D

nice work ! :D

at that price its really a no brainer even if you're not getting the most complex of wines.
Sure to be half decent and appreciated by most

Tried this at the weekend. Its a bargain at £4. Typical Chilean with a nice balance of ripe fruit and toasty oak.

Is this similar to the Yali 3 lagoons that i couldn't find anywhere?

Drank last night and a pretty decent quaffer
As note above by Mel and Tribs, deep rich dark fruit and vanilla oak that's not too OTT
didn't find it very tannic as Mel noted

Tribs, as I recall, the Yali 3 lagoons is a step up from this
Found it to use better quality oak lending some of the cliched cedar/cigar box notes that I enjoy in a nice bordeaux while this tastes more like newer American oak has been used

Shez, that is exactly why I rated the Yali 3 Lag reserve. Given the power & concentration of the fruit, some pretty good oak was used to give those notes to such a young wine. It needs to be the reserve, I believe there is a lesser version.

Tip me off when you next see it on special, please - Cheers.

Of course Duncan.
I'm always keeping my eyes peeled for the 3 lagoons GR discount
Gutted I didn't load up on a load with the double disc before Christmasa bf even with te most recent 25% off I foolishly took it easy
Even at full px of 9.99 its not bad value for the quality of the wine

And yes, thunk Maj do a Yali cab or Carmenere but it isn't 3 lagoons or GR so probably wouldnt bother

Shez, there was none in my mega Sains during the last promo, and none in the central Reading store either. So, I'm not sure, even if you had run-around like a freaked out rabbit, that you'd have found it.

It's only up country, tut norf that you find this sorta stock !

Shez, when you loaded up your cellar on Tracker, that must have been days of cataloguing. May be I should just enter some specials there. Also Shez, do you remember that dirt cheap LR Volnay '05, it's actually coming good  That tough ole bird is gaining some elegance and leaf mold

Always been a good few on the shelf of my most local sainsbury megastore but not come across it at any others

Cellar tracker is pretty user friendly and a lot of the wines tend to already be loaded on the database so the entry process can be pretty quick
I think depending on the size and your familarity of your cellar, a couple of hours is all you need

Good to hear the volnay is coming good - that'll teach me not to have any patience

How savoury can you go Shez ? A point to remember about cheap Cote d'Or village wines are that on the '05, it is still plenty firm and a tad green, a touch hard and tannic in the mouth. The fruit on this though is coming up now and enough sous bois there for interest. But that savoury streak is still plenty at the mo for many folks - I should'ave bought more, as this is not properly ready till 2015. So I make mistakes alright, and I'm supposed to know better. Cos I've been doing it for a long time........
The charts for affordable vosne romanée, pommard & corton will be showing bottles on their side for yonks...decades even.

2nd bottle consumed over a week:

Initially when popped and poured the syrah dominates. Bit too sweet and strong, baked like mel mentioned

Returned to the bottle a few days later (vacuvin'd) and it had greatly improved
Dried out slightly and the cab and carm showing through nicely now

Think I'll leave the rest a while or at least decanter the next bottle
