Shiraz Grenache Mourvedre Got a bottle to see if it's worth stocking up on while 25% reduced. Dark and spicy nose - I think the grenache leads on the nose. Ripe plummy and inviting. The taste is spicy, peppery and bordering on being a fruit bomb. You'd never put this in Europe. I'd be happy to serve this with something rich and meaty, or griddled steak. Would also be interested to see what happens in 3-4 years. |

The previous vintage had a slug of Touriga nacionale in it, "they said", so I understood the fruit bomb when mixed with grenache. A must for guy fawkes if you are doing bangers and burnt stuff in the ashes. That TN 'route nationale' must ripen to extra dark inky purple in Barossa. |

I recently cleared a Sainsburys shelf of this when I spotted it reduced to £4, my fave glugger at the mo, delicious and probably my best QPR buy this year. |

Richard MM, you have bought the basic Shiraz, this first appeared before Christmas along with their Riesling, part of the Co-Op's Xmas wine deal selection. It is now being cleared. I have one myself but have not tried it yet, I grabbed some of the riesling too whilst both were reduced to £4. I dont expect it to be up to the GKR standard but ya never know.... |

£4.00 bottle of wine it would cost me £1-2.00 in fuel to divert there though and then expain to a non wine person about a refund ?? Can you see me doing that ?? I think I can cook or bin without any sleepless nights though !! lol Only ever taken one bottle back (just touched my wooden desk) to a merchant but that was a rather expensive bottle and I knew he would exchange / refund. |

Can you see me doing that ?? I think I can cook or bin without any sleepless nights though !! lol Yeah understood your petrol bit, I tried that on Tesco's, and they had the effrontery to suggest that I'd be doing my big shop there anyway. Such audacity ! You are cleary a reserved gent Rich, you don't want to turn over the tables. Me, I'm hard nosed, I'm not having it, I'm never rude or raise my voice though. On the face of it Rich, and looking at those mini bottle prices for loads of stuff, nothing like that is ever seen down here in Sassenach land, even christmas promo.....Is it Mel ? Is it Ba ? 50% off real retail prices, was it ? Nothing in the Co-Op that I went to on Sunday - no evidence of a clearance either. Mind you Ba, whites are not a candidate with supermarket marketing types, to be knocked down that hard. |

None of those wines round here either, Dunc. I found some on clearance though, in a slower moving store on my travels. Magnificent Wine Co "Cab" Californian Cabernet (with a splash of Syrah) - £4 Mellowood Zin 06 - £3 Smokebush Hill Shiraz 08 - £4 Never seen any of these before either. Mainly Rose and Fizz in the "bin". |

Obviously you have to factor in the journey cost, if you are in the store every other day its not a problem. But..... even if you wont be going back for a another month or two, I would still return it and say it is oxidised, which it clearly will be by then. They dont know when it was opened. |

I did indeed. Found a favourable review of the Smokebush, but nothing on the others. |

Hello everybody Hopee the NY has started well for everyone ! Having read this and the Cromwell Cellars thread, I too have jumped on the Co-op bandwagon for a tester bought 2 of the St Halletts Barossa Shiraz 08 (which I'm expecting to be reasonably uncomplicated, a bit sweet and fruit forward but an ok glugger especially for my non winey friends) Actually, I've just found the following on Midland's Co-op site (much better than standard co-op site !): St Hallett Shiraz 2008 (Australia) Fruit from the central and western sections of the Barossa Valley was knitted together, generally stemming from intensely flavoured, low-yielding crops. This is reflected in the wine’s concentrated cherry and plum flavours with its vanilla framework hinting at its oak maturation in a combination of French and American oak. 1x Luis Felipe Edwards Reservado Cab Sav/Carm/Cab Franc 2010 @ £3 Midland Co-op note: Cabernet Sauvignon makes up 60% of red blend from Chile’s Central Valley, with Carmenère and Cabernet Franc making up the rest in equal measure. It shows a dark ruby colour and plenty of red fruits and spice on the nose and palate. The oak element has added toast and chocolate notes and a soft, velvety texture rounds things off nicely. 1x Marques de Valido Rioja Reserva 2006 @ £4 Co-op: This Rioja Reserva from Bodegas Muriel is made from vines with an average age of thirty years and grown using the traditional ‘gobelet’ system. It received its malo in stainless steel tanks before being racked twice and transferred to oak barrels of French and American origin. Will try to give these a go over the next few nights if I can to see whether worth picking up more |
