Winemaker and winery: Gerhard Swart, Flagstone. Grape variety: 55% Riesling and 45% Viognier. Region: Swartberg and Elgin/Elim. Viticulture/Vinification: Bladder pressing, open top stainless steel tanks, native yeast. 100% malolactic fermentation, no fining. Stainless steel fermentation at 14C and barrel fermentation, no wild fermentation. Availability: 100 stores. 13.5% vol. Two gold rabbits on the label, unless they’re hares. Would be good for a label quiz. Nice savoury oak on the nose, but also rounded and yet fresh fruit. A very appealing nose. Alive. Lovely flavour. Bright and while there’s some vanilla flavour, the oak texture is limited, until the finish. Like it. 23/03/10 |
