Post subject:  Fragoso Merlot 2009 M&S 6.49

Winemaker and winery: Rodolfo “Opi” Sadler, Bodegas Santa Ana.
Grape variety: 100% Merlot.
Region: Cuyo Mendoza, Argentina.
Viticulture/Vinification: Warm and dry, continental influence. The Andes to the West block the prevailing rain patterns but water is available from snow melt on the mountains. From selected vineyards in the High Area of Mendoza, flood irrigated with fresh water from the Andes, controlled yield, spur pruned and vertical shoot positioning. Hand-harvest followed by destemming and crushing. Addition of selected yeasts leading to controlled alcoholic fermentation, pneumatic pressing and racking and controlled natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is stabilised and filtered before bottling.

Nice polo pony, moving at speed across the label. Rich, sweet and spicy fruit. Fruity, with dark, spicy Merlot flavours. Good price.

I have a few bottles of this. I too thought it was good for the price, especially when on offer.
