£9.99
399 stores

Attractively stinky, farmyardy nose. Good taste as well. I like this. Warm and spicy, but not too high alcohol. Yes, this is good.

Now on offer at half price £4.99

Mainly 08 now. I 've not tried either vintage (yet) but we are well acquainted with the excellent 07 Rhone vintage and we have no TN for the 08.

If you are lucky there maybe a few 07's at the back of the shelf. I was

The Tesco site lists it as 'non vintage' :?

Will look for this, thanks.

I noticed that. It is definitely not NV. Lazy *******s! Obviously can't be bothered to update vintages.

Hey, thanks for this Heads-Up Mr T. Only in Big 'Everthing' Stores, Tribs ?

Yeah, I'm sure having a few of those '07's - must get there soon. I need some cheaper petrol too, so i'll go out later to the big store.

Ta, very muchly.

I can't decide whether to look for more 07's or save the money for France.

Discovery is the * deciding factor :) Middle East bankers as well as Eastern tycoons are dumping euro, they say.......so falling in your favour. Angela Merkel's intervention seems to have had the opposite to intended effect.

Lovely Syrah fruit in this Plan de Dieu. Pretty good for a fiver, this particular bottle is not stinky, quite light in body, and very french bistro in character, (much more typical of the style than the Chapoutier) I'm drinking it out of a duralex tumbler, as artisans use to do.

Don't hang around with this - glug down, cos it will dry out pretty fast, if left unattended on the rack. Drink this Summer and Autumn, don't carry forward is my message.

I left a small amount in a wide glass, an hour or so ago - Plan de Dieu does not approve of too much fresh air. Can be served at cellar temp on warm days - Another honest to goodness CdR to be enjoyed on the evening patio, for week end lunching, or just because.

France it is.

I too opened one last night. I agree with everything you say. Farmyard has been lost to time. Much more typical than Chapoutier's hints to the NW.

Changes quite a bit in the glass. Stood up quite well with food. Can't help but feel a little disappointed though. Good at the offer price but the full price provides a little bit more expectation and it has not quite delivered for me.

Yep - * exactly Tribs, not delivered. Stood up to food, oh good, I could place with a salad lunch, and serve cooler than normal
Changes quite a bit in the glass Yep, it expires ! doesn't it - but the syrah flavour is good when straight out of the blocks, even though it has no legs.
There will be bottle variance from Mel's tasting all that time ago, the blending tanks for this wine will vary - that's understood.

My bottle code on the back label is: L9322F 02

For this batch - no star for a tenner.
For a fiver, still a bargain because the flavour is nice. Dont know how it hides 14% alc, feels like 13 which is very pleasant. I'd give it a £ good if the body was there to fill out in the mouth.
I'm happy enough :)

Sir, Enjoy your discoveries in France - you may stumble across some *real gems.

 edited - Sorry about that Tribs  Google tanslate gave me a bum steer, and I didn't check.

Tribs I've had a long hard day, so I reached for the Plan De Dieu in the pantry, poured out a glass, and it had grown in depth and richness, and, there are some farmy bits in the flavour now, but not on the nose. My nose is a bit "pollened-out" though, so not up to speed.

Is it me ? - please check, because, I needed a glass.

Yep, finished off the bottle last night and you are exactly right. Was far superior to the first night. Much happier now.. Still not much on the nose but the flavour more than makes up for it. Softer too. Worthy of a :qofgoodvalue:
