Marlborough Majestic £7.99 Buy 2 bottles save £6 £4.99 Cork ABV: 13% Very, very catty aroma, but not astringent and stairwell-like. A fair wine for £4.99 but I wouldn’t buy it at the full price of £7.99. Pithy and definitely varietally correct, but a little sour on the finish. 12/02/2010 |

£4.99 again now. Got a few along with the Fairleigh Est. Yep MJ, the cat leapt on me immediately on opening even though it was over-warm. Luckily I found a clean glass in the fridge which cooled it nicely. Dare I say a little N.France attitude, some finesse I mean. Close call with the afore-mentioned so I recommend...both. Both on good offer, both same place, both good in their own way. |

Next on my "day 2 " quest. Wow! Has moved up a gear and down an octave. Heavy man but in a good way. Someone ought to start a day 2 shop, and save us all 24 hrs of drinking time. |

Mr B, I rate this MSB on day two. I sampled some at my local on Sunday morning. For a fiver, I don't believe there is a better MSB on the shelf at the moment. The wine is made by Brent Marris's brother. Ok, the wine is a bit linear, however that linear flavour is *correct (*tropical, lardy - dardy - dar, etcetera) for a sunny MSB, and the finish, although shortish is a pretty good end flavour. No pith, but that's not particularly necessary with this style....A bit like a junior Ned actually. I'd written a tasting note yesterday, but lost it while editing and looking for an internet add-on (you have to preview to keep the page in memory, on the odd occasion, I forget). This MSB is perfect for a luncheon party on the lawn, or wedding apperatif after the champagne on a hot afternoon. I'd advise chilling more than usual - will not break the bank, even if some guests decide to get greedy with it. A bargain MSB, of that there is little doubt. I'll have to try it striaght out of the blocks to see if it's worthy of a G £ V ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ba - The Ned '09 is à point a la moment. These last 3 months laying have been beneficial for integration and depth, and the girly bit has passed. Very nice this evening, very refreshing. |

Ba, did you get pith, or the stalky / pippy finish that can appear to be sour. Mind you, that was back in February. Things do change with bargain MSB, but they are normally mouth feel (spritz goes) and depth comes (integration) and loss of pungency (just desolves) or sugaryness. Hey Ba, what do you say, ok...after pulling the cork, 1st glass ? 15 weeks later...... |
