Winemaker and winery: Rod Easthorpe, Craggy Range.

Grape variety: 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Region: Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay.

Viticulture/Vinification: A single vineyard wine made with grapes grown in the stony soils of Craggy Range. The 2005 vintage was a classical vintage in Hawkes Bay and on average 69 hectolitres have been harvested per hectare. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, and afterwards the wine was aged for 19 months in 55% new French oak barrels.

Blackcurrant and green pepper on the nose. It’s big, meaty and with blackcurrant. The alcohol is practically in balance. Good.
