Post subject:  Hess Syrah 2006 Mendocino/Monterey Waitrose 9.69

Donald Hess Syrah (85% Syrah, 15% Mendocino-sourced Petite Sirah) is made by David Guffy from Monterey fruit that gives the fresh elegance of the coast yet the ripeness to yield a lush, rich wine of true varietal purity. Planted on sandy loam, the 15 year-old vines were hand-harvested at 6.4 tonnes/acre and 24° Brix. Grapes were fermented in stainless and open-top fermenters with pumpovers then aged in 60 gallon French oak barrels (20% new) for 15 months. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Light, fresh, fruity, raspberry aroma. Lightweight and fresh – just not enough weight for me. Alc 14.5%, TA 5.5g/l, pH 3.82. Available from Wine Direct and 189 branches.
