Post subject:  Waitrose Italian Organic Rosso 2005 Moncaro 5.39

60% Sangiovese and 40% Montepulciano. Founded in 1964 and located in the beautiful Marche region, Moncaro is one of the largest co-operatives in Italy with 1,200 members who cultivate a total of 1,700 hectares of vineyards. For this wine, the 8-30 year old vines are guyot-trained and planted on clay and sand. Hand-harvested in Sept/Oct with yield of 12,000 kilos/ha. Crushed, destemmed, no pre-fermentation maceration. Fermented for 10 days with use of cultivated yeasts. Aged in oak 20-30hl barrels for 5-6 months. Winemaker Giuliano d’Ignazi, with consultant oenologist, Riccardo Cotarella.

Syrupy fruit on the nose and palate. Rustic and fruit. Not bad.
Alc 13.30%, TA 5.1g/l, pH 3.50, RS 3g/l. Available from Wine Direct and 192 branches.
