Post subject:  Cuvée Balthazar Syrah 2005 VdP d'Oc Waitrose 9.99

90% Syrah and 10% Grenache, grown on schist slopes around Neffies, in Languedoc-Roussillon. Harvested Sept 2005 by hand at 30hl/ha. Syrah has long carbonic maceration in 2 separate tanks for 3 weeks, then one tank is run and pressed and used to fill the other tank, immersing its cap for 2 further weeks during which the malolactic takes place. Winemaker Pierrick Harang.

Very heavy bottle and nice presentation. Very ripe, raspberry aroma. Warm alcohol and dark brooding fruits in the mouth. Not for me, but not a bad wine.
Alc 14%, TA 3.45g/l, pH 3.93, RS 0.1g/l. Available from Wine Direct and 115 branches.
