Grape varieties: Chenin Blanc 45% Viognier 35% Sauvignon Blanc 20% 1.7 grams/litre residual sugar. 13.50% The grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks to control the temperature and retain freshness. The wine was left on its lees to add texture and richness. The blend was mostly tank fermented and only 28% was barrel fermented for about 4 months in American oak barrels. This wine is named after Cape Town's historic Noon Gun, which is situated on Signal Hill and goes off at midday every day, signalling the start of the afternoon to the City. Flagstone was set up in 1998 by Bruce Jack, whose quirky, creative and groundbreaking style has seen him acclaimed as South Africa's key generation winemaker. High priorities include fair trade, sustainable production and black economic empowerment. Some cat on the nose. Not bad, actually. Generally, I don't like spurious variety blends, but this seems to work. £8.19 is the top of it's price, but worth trying if reduced. 447 stores 07/10/2008 |
