Chaps has anyone tried this apart from Mel ??

PAUL CHEVALIER HERMITAGE 2010 (£19.99, 75cl) 13.5% ABV
100% Syrah
Region: Hermitage, Rhone, France
Availability: Seasonal, on shelf nationwide from 2nd November
Wow – a beautiful aroma. Ripe syrah fruit and black olives. Mmmm. Lovely herbal, savoury palate with some sweet vanilla. I adore it.

Sorry Rich,

I do not know the producer. There is a CT review, which you would have seen.

Nothing on the web about Paul Chevalier as a Hermitage producer or northern Rhone wine 'negociante'. 2010 is a very good vintage for Hermitage as you know.

Mel's TN is very favourable.

Richard,

This is good to very good mid-week glugging on a budget.

http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/details/default.aspx?id=254830567

This Crozes drinks like the 2007, fruity, early maturing, very accessible, and with a sweet vanilla palate.

It is sold out online, and I have done a couple of bottles in the last two weeks - However, I found 6 in a big store this lunchtime, and cleared the shelf. Buy four or more wines before midnight today, and you get this wine for a fiver a bottle.

The review by Harvey1803 on the Tesco website is about right. Ignore the other reviews, probably non Rhone people. The bottles were pretty consistent, although the 2nd bottle was nicer to my mind, The wine keeps well when opened.

That's bad luck.
Rich my discovery was a sheer fluke, I was originally asking the store to search the stock room for their 2010 Stellenbosch cab on the TF silver shield label made by Vergelegen which is quite an elegant number, and a snip when on double disco. I'd thought when I took the only two bottles of Crozes last time, that 'it was it'.

You never know, you found the Ch. Mauras '10 Sauternes for a fiver.

How is the Aldi CNdP ? Is it on the 2010 vintage

Dunc,

Hi, My CnDP is via an old cellar I occasionally get access too  lol
A few 2007 to keep my stock healthy.

I picked up 2x Muscat pudding wines from Aldi today though.
Will try this along side the Mauras on Saturday night hopefully as I have a lady coming over for a meal.

One special bottle I have just bought which must be shared is a 2001 Ch Mission, maybe my 60th in 13 years ??

By which time, I'll be all the sevens

2007 CNdP, a brilliant vintage for fans of lush southern Rhone wines - Yum.

Good luck on Saturday - hope she adores the Sauternes, in the mood . . . . I'd better wisper this . . . A few too many ladies just want dry white wines all-of-the-time . . . . .? No doubt your introduction will appeal.

2001 La Mission H-B - Wow, that's a mega treat, no wonder you're looking for budget mid-week quauffers

Dunc,

Good news she likes all types of wine.
We had a glass each of 2011 Rustenberg Chenin Blanc Straw Wine which was lovely (Majestic buy) one left.

Mission will be a special event in my life I guess not sure if my 60th is a good idea, will keep an eye on CT for notes etc.

Cheap mid week quaffers required !!

Results from a heavy Saturday night.

The Mauras was good a little two dimesional though, the Muscat was much more alive and was a roller coaster of a trip.
A hint of flora fresh acidity with a lovely honey finished.
Happy to have both in the cellar, would prefer more of the Aldi Muscat though if I had to choose one.

I'll have to look out for the Aldi Muscat then. I always get distracted by the higher end wines they sell at this time of year and don't look to see what the reasonable stuff is saying.
Is this the one? : https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range ... inervoiss/
