First try of a NW wine and pleasantly suprised.

Lovely oaky nose reminiscent of a good Rioja. Red fruit, vanilla and smoke in the mouth. More dialled back on the fruit and alcohol than some of the extra plummy/cherry reds I've tried from the Port wine areas.

Didn't decant and it was great straight out of bottle.

Viog - That wine sounds full with a good tannic structure - A Good Douro vintage I believe. To have the wine maker blogging along with the customers, is quite rare for me to see ! The bloggers love this wine :)

Sorry, I'm moving off this thread to your area of experience - forgive me.

So, whilst posting, are you able to advise on this viognier producer.

Domaine Saint Ferréol Viognier 2010 PGI Pays d'Oc.

* Barrel fermented, good vintage, Majestic, Easter offers, potential to improve over the next three or so years. Should this wine be drunk fairly young ? Or is there room for a few more * secondary flavours to develop in the short term ?

cheers

Domaine de St. Ferreol's Jorje Maslakiewicz does not immediately conjure up thoughts of a languid Southern French vigneron, and yet that is exactly what he is! Having bought the ancient property of St Ferréol in 2000, and with a degree in oenology and a far from sentimental vinous education, Jorge decided that he had identified the ideal location for the cultivation of the notoriously fickle Viognier grape. One was inclined to be sceptical, but the very act of tasting his wonderful Viogner wines was enough to banish all scepticism.
The location in question is the small enclave of Nizas, close to Montpellier. Jorge has not spared any expense; his wine has been both fermented and matured in significant volumes of new oak. Viognier’s calling cards of dried apricot, peach kernel and honeysuckle are all present and correct, displayed indeed, with bounteous aplomb. The texture is suitably rich and hedonistic, but there is an impressive mineral grip at the back to underline quality and lend a Condrieu-like texture. [BBR]

Dunc, decent wine indeed I have bought this for the past 3 years I think.
Will probably still have an odd bottle left other somewhere.

Richard

Thank you Ba, and thank you Richard..... :)

BBR TN's are usually pretty accurate.

I'm looking forward to this.

Duncan
I haven't tried this but it is on the list for the next Majestic order.
Generally found, from these Oc whites, that the 11s are more concentrated than the 10s.

I thought I rembered Mel reviewing this but it wasn't coming up in search. It's in a recent Majestic article though.

Beautifully rich, oaky, aroma. Really draws you in. Big, rich and exciting wine. I’d shave 1% off the alcohol, but I think that’s my problem. Good wine.

Dunc, purchased mine from a French Merchant in Bourne End near Maidenhead.

I am meeting him again late April to sample some of his new lines.
He always has something wonderful each time me meet up.

Regards
Richard
