Dunc just popped into a Coop on route to work and found these on offer,

2008 Vignobles du Peloux, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Palais des Anciens

Spicily perfumed, there’s impressive weight and concentration of dark cherry and damson plum fruit in this meaty, muscular young southern Rhône grenache-based red that has the juiciness, flavour and, technical term, oomph, to flatter the most wintery of dishes.
£12.99, reduced from £16.99, until 4 January, Co-op
Now £7.00 so bought four, will try one tonight if any good will pop back tomorrow.

Montes Reserva Chardonnay £6.99
A 2005 Chianti Reserva cant remember the name at £5.00

It took a while to decide to post again on here after the last attack on my person, I have decided to ignore childish comments in the future.

Hope you are well sir.

Lawrence my youngest is also a full serving soldier in her Majesty's Army as well now !!
Very proud Englishman !!

Richard

What have I missed?

The Palais des Anciens also do a CdR available from Co-Op, I like it, the '08 was very good indeed, overall a good year for the region, I'd have snapped those CnP up too.

I'm not a fan of rich, concentrated Chardonnay's, often with too much oak to attempt balance, I nearly always find something bitter resident in the finish.

Thank you Richard,
The '08 Palais des Anciens CNdP
I knew a local Co Op which had quite a few of these in the January clearance - but only discounted to £14 Odd. So, I have just been out in the car to check if they were still there. The acting manager said that she had got the email from HQ this morning, she said she's not a wine drinker, so she hadn't got around to re-pricing them yet, also she had run out of £7 stickers ! That's the nature of little Co-Ops which I find quaintly attractive

They are very sweet in there, a friendly bunch. They had 7 bottles left, I took 6.

Thank you GK for endorsing the '08 CNdP, I've done the Palais des Anciens CdR villages, so I knew that Palais d'A could make a half decent southern Rhone, there is a TN on this site somewhere, where I've said as much.

The bottles were cool, this little store runs the heating for brisk business, and they have quite a lot of fresh produce for the locals to buy.

Yeah, thank you both for the tip-off today. Topping up stocks of aged Rhone at this price, for this ole geezer is a delight :D

Cheers

That is a damn good career start for a boy with the right aptitude. Get him into the engineering side of the army, if he's got what it takes. When he comes to leave the services, there are loads of well paid professional opportunities in Civi street for Army trained engineers with the proper qualifications.

Rich,
**We shall be comparing notes at some point then - although for most of the day, I shall be head-down concentrating on a tricky matter, that needs a lot of thought.

*** He should become proficient in these excellent skills from the Royal Electrical & Mech Engineers. Really usefull qualifications. Good stuff

All Co-op offers, which started yesterday, are now up. As I type, my son is sitting outside an interview room waiting to see if he's called back in for a Mech Eng graduate placement. Exciting times.

2008 Palais des Anciens CNdP

Richard - there is going to be some bottle variance with this wine. which may have been kicking around in the stores for a good while.

My 1st bottle had lovely oak integration, great mouth feel inspite of 14% Alc, Brooding, dark, some pleasant farmyard, But the expected lift and brightness from the Grenache was waining. I don.t know what the mix of Grenache & Syrah, Mourvèdre & Cinsault are ? I would have expected this wine to be coming good at 3 years from release ? I wonder if the wine is going through a slumbering stage ?

How was your 1st Bottle ? I want a bit more vibrant fruit and a touch more acidity and freshness to make this purchase a proper bargain

What say You.

Dunc,

Hi, improved on day two, but as you stated it lacks any grip / acidity rather flat fruit if that makes sense. It does have a warmth on the finish which I like.

Lets hope its shut down ?? will cellar my others and check on them in 6-12 months time.

No CNdP on offer at mine
Mels offers page mentions Baron De Ley rose on offer for 6.99, however the 2006 reserva, if in stock is also reduced from 10.99. I snapped up the last 3 of those

Good call Shez, IMO, the Baron de Lay '06 reserva is more desirable than the 11/12 Rosado.
