No mention of this vintage that I can see. I reckon this is past it though WR is still showing this year on their site. SO glad I only took 1, this is a bit ropey, and after the (cheaper) magnificent Vav, this is pale and unatractive.

This and the Ara Pathway SB '10 are both highly recommended in May's Decanter mag.

I checked in Mozzys this morning for the Ara, they only had the '09, decided to wait. If I can get the '10 Ara whilst there's an offer on I might buy a case for over the summer, will try a bottle first though. Standard price is £7.99 which is pretty good for a decent MSB.

Also, watch out for a new Brancott- Project Icon MSB '10.

Looking at the Ara website, the Pathway seems to be their entry level SB.

Judging by my experiences with MSB so far, if its holding up, 2009 may well be better to drink now than waiting for 2010 mate

But will be interesting to see whether the 2010 is all that (and better than the other 2010 budget offerings tried so far)

The 10 Stich isn't great.

Just dry white wine. It could develop though.

You're the past and present knowledge on these Mr G.

The ugly duckling scenario

That principle can hold good for a Cote d'Or pinot noir from the villages....not as often though these days, with modern wine making techniques. But for new world ? How often does that hold good for NZ white sauvignon blanc.

Less headroom to develop favourably ? Please say.

The 10 reminded me of a good Sancerre that was ' closed ' as they say. You know it's good cos it's made by a quality producer and the texture is so cream...err....velvety that it's a pleasure to drink even though there's no obvious flavour coming through. The JE was like that although there were very subtle hints of the 07 about it. Enough for you know it was JE and not any MSB but not enough for you to want to buy any more.

So I didn't. However, JE does have a reputation for improving with age.

More of a dozing donkey* than an ugly duckling.

Last night's '09 improved a little with a LOT of cold.

The Ara Pathway SB is now reduced to £5.99 in Mozzys, still only have the '08 & '09 on the shelf so grabbed an '09 to try.

I had the 2010 at Sains on Wednesday and was nicely surprised. After reading all your comments I nearly didn't taste it, but that would have been a mistake. A good standard.

See current article.

To be fair, if I had never had a Saint Clair Pioneer Block I would probably still be impressed with JE. But I have and I found JE to be lacking in concentration. Not only in compariosn to SC but also in comparison to past vintages.

JE is too expensove now for what it is.

And anyway, i'm with SC now.

I've moved on.

I wish I could taste the Roc Sancerre. The PF Antique is very good.

Current article is excellent stuff. Wealth of knowledge in there.

That is a reasonable price for Confuron's '08 NSG, I can confirm that it is exclusive, there was none on Mentzendorff's current Chanson list !

Chanson Nuits St George 2008 £24.99.
Winemaker - Jean-Pierre Confuron
New and exclusive, available 1 June, 55 stores, natural cork 13.0%
Mmmm. Lovely nose. Very fragrant. Savoury, woody, just beautiful. I love this. *

All / or most of his '08 Gevrey has gone somewhere as well ?

Recent JE Stich version.

I'm with you on this Mr G, however I wait. At £11.99 it aint gonna move that fast. When I'm ready to pick-up the volume disco offers - the decision will be which vintage do I hunt down ? And why ? It keeps well - stays fresh.

The nine was a tad benign (last January) - although very correct. You've done the ten, what say you when doing the comparisons '09 V '10 - friend.

JE 2010 is definitely a notch up on thr 09 which was quite odd. Phenolic one minute watery the next. The flavour was there, hidden away, but it never came right. The 2010 is still a pale shadow of what was but it's fine in it's own right. At the right price.

I would choose this over Goldwater and Southbank at say sub £8
