Claude Fournier Pere Et Fils

Bone dry, surprisingly pale, just a hint of colour. Lovely chalky nose. Fruit and minerals* in perferct balance.

Very subtle. Classic Sancerre.

Sounds very nice. '08 will be classically restrained. Big T have not done a promo for a while - so this one is buy and drink now ? Is that right G ?

I will park this in my acquisition folder. I think we may have missed a recent promo on which we could have scored this one - you are a little bit late on this Mr G.......

Yes, drink now. It's very light in body. I'm surprised it's held up this long. But the flavour is spot on for me.

The Finest Pouilly Fume 07 is much richer but has no obvious flavour left now. It was outstanding until around Autumn 10.

My Tesco has some new Hunter Valley semillon from 2000 selling for £17.99.

Semillon can be wonderful when golden, mellow and all beeswaxy but it can rich and toasty too.

Rich and toasty I just don't do.

Touch flinty when chilled.

Very nice indeed.

That said, although Sancerre is generally more reliable than it's neighbour, Pouilly Fume, I do think that at it's very best PF hits greater heights in terms of variation of flavour.

It'll be 2008 or 2009. Maybe even 2010.

I have ordered 6.

This is really nice but the Sainsbury les Chadawotsits Pouilly Fume is better.

It's not on offer for £6.61 though. You sure Tesco online will send you newer vintages ? The 2006 will be buggered.

The 08 is instore and is hanging on in there. They need to release the 09 for me.

Yeah, I'm somewhat sceptic too. They may be clearing krap. The website is actually showing '06 so there will be no come back if it is.

If they send 2006 it'll be going back.

I reckon they've just been lazy with updating the vintage on the website.

Like Tribs, I reckon the website just hasn't been updated

stock on the shelves are 2008 so I can't imagine they've be hoarding some 06s in a warehouse all this time without tryingto shift it in store first.

and ccould you swap it in store for a preferred vintage if you have a receipt ?

waiting for mine to arrive....
dunno whether to be happy or sad that the Yarra is 2010
s'pose I've still got 5 of the 2007 to consume in the meantime...

Yes. Its a shame we are not getting a wine with some age. But we knew we were going to get the 2010 when we ordered (at least its what we were expecting).

Having done some research 2010 Yarra Pinot is expected to be the best for some time, so if we leave these for a while we may be rewarded.

However, if you prefer not to wait you could return some of the 2010 bottles with your receipt for the 2007s and get a refund. Then go and buy any remaining 07s with the refunded cash.

I wonder what happened to the 2008 and 2009 vintages.

Both of you have done well.

The Yarra valley reports for '10 are not yet published at Langton's, but the '09 was a 4 out of 10 for pinot noir, so in the scheme of things, may be avoided, unless you know something different

Talking Swaps and Receipts

I have done a swap at Tesco's in a less convoluted manner. Customer Services just could not care less when I swapped some of The Reach '08 MSB, (thinking I was getting the '07) - for some VM Cellar Selection '07 that happened to be on offer at the time.

I even had the Online receipt ready for inspection. I explained the vintage choice - but frankly that was "Too Much Information" and I could see eyes glazing over.

I chose a quiet time - so no queuing at the CS desk.

Shez - Swap with confidence, I don't think you need to bother with the buying and credit back selling gag.
