Grenache - Cinsault - Carignan - Syrah

Lovely wine. Dry, pale, light/medium bodied, smooth textured with a wild strawberries dipped in cream taste.

No hint of that awful white pepper that is so off putting in most Provence/style roses.

:qofgold:

And I haven't been AWOL. I met MrsD in the Reading branch of Majestic. They were out of Saint Clair so I recommended the Montana basic 2006. The acidity nearly burnt a hole in MrD's mouth and after a 10 day course of intensive gum massage MrD said I can be absent anytime I want.

Only, that wasn't quite how he put it.

Strange, I'm hoping to get to Edinburgh when the sun returns, and have picked York as a half-way-house with a visit to the steam engine museum.

Rhone rose' is good, interesting - good to hear that Mr ~.g.~ That is a rhone mix ? I havent looked it up, I'm too lazy today. Ok edited later. Coteaux du Gard, Chusclan. I looked it up in the end

5 ***** Decanter rating for the '09

So, not just a pretty face, this southern mix, and the new vintage '10 earns a Quaffer's star  Actually Mr G, thinking about it, you're more likely to find Mrs D in Marks !

This is an elegant, sophisticated dry pinky.

You've no class.

Enough already. So OK, it was late, it was after a Chilean SB and, in fact, was opened in error. So I shall re-approach it with an open mind late tonight.

It needs little chilling. About 12c is best

Btw.....if you think this is light you should try the Jadot combe aux jacques Beaujolais Villages gamay that I had with a steak sandwich at lunch.

Watery and pointless would be kind.

Now then, now then. That "combe" has had great and bad comments depending on vintage.
I digress...no listen missus. This has a lovely colour, lovely legs (13½°) and now warmer some interest. Fruity herby, very dry and showing complexities. Don't know about steak, I would need a couple of pints for that, but would be fantastic with a tomato and cucumber salad.

Bacchus likes rose...Bacchus likes rose !

Ha.

If only I had a photo to show your hairy biker mates.

That said, it's my favourite sub £7 wine. It does need very light chilling though or it's subtle flavour and velvety texture will be lost.

At £8 and under the Alsace gewurz at Asda just beats it but you do need to be in the mood. At £10 and under the Les Monts St Veran at Marks beats the gewurz but the 08 ( come on Marks move on ) ain't great.

At £10 and above have I mentioned St Clair ?

The mind boggles - it's a bit incongruous init ? Nah, under them leathers, there's a milky white weakling

Talking Gewurz, some folks were talking about the de Vero '09 in Waitrose a while back, and rating it..... if you want it, it is £5.99 till close of business tonight, after that, back to £12 full retail.

Just thought I'd say.
