In a blind tasting MrD would guess that this was both MSB and Jackson Estate cos it has the exact same flavour, yet, sadly, little of the pungency, of the 2007. Needs cellering for at least 18 months, he would say....in a posher voice than mine, obviously. Ad he'd be spot on. Bone dry, vague hint of passion fruit struggles through the rich oily texture. Good news is that there is no sign of the stalks dipped in cement of the last two vintages. If only there was more flavour. Give it time. Got some more Bird Bock 19. Which is nice.. |

Righty-oh-then ~.g.~ Being my 3 score week, I opened a bottle of JE07 for myself. I gave my dear Misses a sip last night, and she said phew...."that's right in my face" it's too much for me, smiling I sipped gently, rolling it all around. Goose, you'll not be too peeee'd-off to know, that the blackcurrent leaf pungency has all but puffed-out. Yet the B.leaf is actually imbeded in the flavour. This wine is so concentrated, and not one bit drier. It is difficult to describe an MSB wine as dry per se', when it possesses so powerful a flavour. How has it changed ? The lychee, which is rare these days, seems to be immortal, Passion fruit of course, the green bell pepper has changed a bit and somehow, the matured finish is ripe pink grapefruit and with a dollop of friendly pith. The gooseberry is so changed that you'd say, where is it ? It's all around ! It is the envelope, but now, it is just the transport for all the other business. Zest and fiz. Who'd have thought this to be so lively, it dances on the tongue, tingerling the tastebuds. Extraordinary wine. You know what... I put the cap on tightly overnight, and when I opened the bottle in the morning, it went.. psssh....there is spritz locked in that wine, and I wonder if the quality of the cap seal is varried, depending on the bottling plant. This wine does not need the impudence of youth to delight and excite. It is still for me, an enduring Star. The last one, will be given another year, but in a chiller like Tribs's, this wine would go on and on ................ |
