Mel said: Tesco Finest Chablis, Cuvée Claude Dominique 2009 is £8.99 and it had a pretty nastily sulphurous nose. The taste wasn’t bad. It was savoury and quite intense. Steve found it flinty and long, but if you’re going to serve it you’ll need to pour it into a jug and then back into the bottle to aerate it. If it's the above version from Claude Dominique though - Hmmnn ? A sulphurous nose, Ugh.... only worth risking for a house white Can't really add to that TN The sulphurous nose has dissovled a bit into the wine, so that the minerality is a bit weird. Quite low acidity, given the current fashion for bulk producers, ripe'ish melon, full'ish fruit, good pith pink grapefruit effect - typically '09, so no rot in there. Would be quite reasonable if it weren't for the geiser aroma and minerality polution. The savoury bit is mildly amplified by the sulphur effect - this morning the savoury thingy is less, as well as the sulphur. I had to play around with carafe boiling water sterile stuff, and fridge in and outs, funnels and stiring. Alot of "pol-lava" ! Go to Maj and pay £6.99 for their bargain - it's all in Mel's article |

That image reminds me of the curried sprouts I had earlier in the week. |

Strange I am, yes. This is the best of recently-tried Chablis. Still the hint of sticking plaster (I know 'cos I am wearing one after being attacked by a wine glass) but not overpowering. Seems to go away with warmth, not cold...weird. One more Gavi to try then I shall probably abandon this genre. |

My dear sister got caught buying one of these Cuvée Claude Dominique '09s, and bought it for me I didn't say a thing, she'd thought of me. The fruit is evolving nicely - Nice '09 fruit. The sulphites are more prominent now, and wreck a nice chardonnay. I have noted this for folks. That if a modern chablis exhibit signs, notes or nuances of sulphites or a carbolic soapy preservative, don't assume that they may wain. They become more exposed as the fruit evolves. You can only do one thing, if you've bought a few. Don't rest on your laurels as Tesco have a 28 day return policy, if you picked this up at an Express store. As it happenned, the manager was called and he returned the middle market price on my card and was polite. I didn't have the receipt, he aksed if I wanted to change it for another one - I explained that all, if not most of these particular '09's from Dominique that came to the UK would probably be affected. |
